HYDERABAD: Already troubled with bad roads and scores of vehicles being pushed into shrinking road spaces, commuters had a harrowing time as they got stuck in serpentine traffic snarls due to VVIP movement.
Vice-President Venkaiah Naidu who is on his first visit to Hyderabad after assuming the post, was felicitated by the state government at the Raj Bhavan on Monday.
While the vice president's convoy travelled during peak hours, the ripple effect was felt for hours before and after the convoy's movement. In fact not just neighbouring areas, the entire traffic had slowed down upto Rasoolpura, Ameerpet, YMCA crossroad, Masab Tank and even Malakpet. "I remained caught in traffic near the SD Eye Hospital for nearly 20 minutes during the evening. Although the traffic started moving slowly by 5.30, it took me over an hour to reach Banjara hills," said P Arun, a commuter.
The Hyderabad traffic police kept on issuing traffic alerts for commuters right from the morning. As per a traffic advisory issue by the Hyderabad Traffic Police at 11.30 am there was a slow movement of traffic from St Johns Rotary, YMCA cross road, SBH crossroad, CTO Junction, Rasoolpura towards Prakash Nagar, due to high volume of traffic. Another alert issued at around 4.30 pm said, "Traffic congestion likely to take place very shortly in the following route KCP Junction, Taj Krishna Junction, Road no 1/10 Banjara Hills, Road no 12 Banjara Hills, Ohris Island, MLA Colony due to VVIP movement."
