One crypto currency prices are paired with another cryptocurrency. Since both can moved in either direction, gains on altcoin can be negated by decline in underlying cryto mainly btc/eth.

In absence of a fiat currency most people are seeing a red portfolio where correction in main crytos is hitting hard on altcoins too.
