The response to our last week's Viewly Uploader announcement has been amazing. People have been uploading all kinds of videos, and sharing them with the community trough posts, for example here and here.
Unfortunately, there was no easy way to find all the videos that people are publishing, which is why we built Viewly Alpha.
Viewly Alpha
This app, aptly named Alpha is a very early prototype of a video explorer.
Embedding
You can now embed Viewly videos on your website, trough a simple iframe.

New Nodes

steemit.com does not support embedding of external content (likely for security reasons, as your private keys are a target to hackers).

Why does embedding not work with the video tag? Is it because you're using MediaSource extensions or something? Why does youtube/vimeo embedding work ok?
I dunno but @furion says that the videos are embeddable, but steemit.com has to whitelist Viewly first.
So is there any criteria for whitelisting a website on Steemit?

Steemit support YouTube and Soundcloud iframes. It does not support Mixcloud I found out. As well as it doesn't support Viewly :( Didn't try other external content services so far.
viewly is pretty new although it's been in the works for quite a while, I'm wondering why a update isn't just patched in for it.
A big question for me as well, since it cannot be simply 3rd party content not enabled through iframes because of security, since then YouTube and Soundcloud would also need to be disabled.
they are probably whitelisted and integrated. It's a matter of web-design back end probably the Steemit Inc. team has the site :)

I will start using the embedding in my next vlog.
I have tried many times but I was unable to log in with the Viewly app. It'always show some error each time I try to login either with Instagram, twitter or facebook account. Is there any bug in that app? I really want to about this. I am highlyexcited for viewly. Reply me @furion
it's probably the alpha, I haven't tried it still, I will give it a week, although I can see there are many videos being uploaded already.
Thanks for the update. Looks great so far. I was curious about something: In theory, if these videos are stored on the Steem blockchain, could they be accessed by any site also on the blockchain too, such as Steemit? In other words, if Steemit supported it and your team was okay with it, could there be a direct video viewer on Steemit that would allow you to see the videos on viewly?
I wan't to clarify that I am not trying to imply that an external site would be bad, just curious if Steem powered sites could be directly integrated with eachother as they share the same blockchain.
Any site can embed and play these videos, regardless of the blockchain or lack thereof.
Fantastic work, video is one great factor that will speed up the success of STEEM.
I love this project, and am amazed at how far along it already is.
I am located in New Zealand (the total and utter bottom of the world short of the South Pole) and would be happy to run a full node here. I can build the server to suit.

he's a developer that's been here for over a year, made the libraries for python and so forth, does he deserve it? te good part is that if you are interested you can check and find out, but if you just think you deserve something, well there are many others that do too, do you for instance go on 100 posts and read all the comments, do you engage the community, do you do something that matters, this comment for sure isn't it, it's not either the problem or a solution, I don't get enough upvotes, well who said you should. I've seen 5000 word posts that have 10 upvotes and no payout, I would credit that rather than your posts whatever they are, so far I'm not even interested to see your blog page :|

I'd like it if you read my comment, you might find something applicable to the current situation, other than that. Bots are mostly run by asshole "farmers" that came during the past few months just to suck up rewards and run people dry, we should be flagging them, linear rewards curve also helped with that, the problem is that people don't educate themselves ad fall "victims" to either some lousy scammer, a circle jerk (some asshole already has 5000 followers in a month because he auto-spams.
The solution is simple go where there are successful people, learn from them, improve the many aspects you'd like to master and one way or another you are already being rewarded, the information here is mostly of good quality, so having that for free is rewarding enough. And please don't feed those scrapheads that just spam, there are many automations like @cheetahto combat plagiarism, but if people don't know what they are doing none of that matters. There is a chat https://steemit.chat you can find help there, there are support projects here, there are many great blogger that help out out of the kindness of their hearts it's not perfect it's what it is.
It's not manipulation, please see if you are correct before you make a claim, I think this post deserves far more to be frank. @furion is a top witness, a top developer, really it's mostly a issue with how whales just automate their votes, they automate votes on successful bloggers, developers and others so they can get more curation rewards.
If you'd like to learn you are free to do so, if you are going to complain I'm not sure I've spent this time productively.

:) thank you, well I can't get to my own works, I spend a lot of time, it would be good for me, but I put it off, I've spent whole day and nights on steemit before so that's a minor issue, I still am but reading is way easier than writing for hours. Basically I need some fundamentals taken care of and I didn't help myself much during the past few months, basically money, practically no reason to stop posting other than expecting rewards and weighing options, the sad part is I have around 100 posts in the "works" that I'm just putting of.

this would be the current "best post" I have, there is the shameless self promotion at the end if you'd like to go back to the start, after that I took a small step back and I followed with a few topics(first was cancer, second was a few posts on trading and I was meaning to make a IOTA review, still all are unfinished)
I have a tendency of not finishing thing up and leaving them for "later" posting helped for a while, but I lacked consistency and then there is the erratic thinking out of the infinite information compared to attention span. So I tend to make a pile over myself and then dig through it :D
anyways thanks again, I saw I missed a few "notifications" that my comments actually got a "public" view here and there and that my time wasn't completely wasted so to say, I'd like to get back to blogging, but I also put my freelancing on the back end for steemit, my personal "development" too, those would be the reasons for my step back, well that's how life goes I suppose, waves.
Still I have to make a review of the current state of the platform I missed a lot in a few months, information mostly, developments tend to stick out, but I'm sure I've missed many of those too.
I read your comment, and I also joined the chat, and posted my link posts in the PROMOTION channel. The moment I do that, people start asking vote for vote. I never asked anyone to upvote me. if they like then they will automatically upvote. Same goes with me, if I like I would upvote from my bottom of heart.
But the trend is not like that. Now I see that people initially asking others upvote to get upto a some level. Probably then only they make it to the pool of people who are being watched.
why bother with people like that, I've started flagging those nagging comments and the spammy images, that's the best we can do. Collude with good people like @surpassinggoogle for instance, the promotion chat is a swamp I rarely post nowadays but the last few times I normally have to tell 5 people to stop spamming their posts.
There are many reasons for this "mental" attitude. People are crazy and they want money and attention spans tend to be on the lower end.
It's a shitty trend I agree the best thing that could be done is to help those that can be helped and flag all the rest of them until they get some manners or a better reason to be here than steal rewards, or scratch their ego's

Hmmm, a shame it isn't supported by Steemit. Actually I noticed this also with services like Mixcloud. YouTube and Soundcloud are support by Steemit though. Will iframes from viewly be supported in Steemit posts?
This is a great achievement for steemit and people are liking that idea.. soon I think I will post something too in the video section.

It's incredible how fast the devolopment of viewly goes ahead.
Sometimes I have to reload the page to start a video and the thumbnails on the mainpage are loading very slowly.

well watch a ipfs video, then connect the dots between that and steem and you might just get it. Inter Planetary File Sharing was it, maybe. go on youtube, or just search ipfs

Viewly looks really cool. Is there an overview of the architecture and economics? I.e. where is stuff stored and who pays for it.
well you can easily learn that, go to ipfs website or see some videos. you can dig around viewly too. Why are you asking questions you can answer yourself with some curiosity :)

It’s a shame Steemit doesn’t support iframes, which often means that I can post here no more than a link to a google docs file hosting the content, if I want it to remain permanently editable.

I just watched @surfermarly vlog from your viewly and its really interesting how the video loads faster while maintaining excellent quality. One question @furion , is it because the use of blockchain?
I'm currently writting a book about blockchain and View.ly will definitely going to be a great case study in the usage of blockchain if indeed it can not only make video content decentralized but also make it load faster.
I just stumbled upon this. I was working on a similar product.. decentralized youtube!!!! .. wow now the team has to think really hard what shud be the strategy
