Introduction
In this post I'd like to talk of Greed City, as said in the title.
I'd like to say a word or two about how I think it can be improved more than describing it.
The game
You Lost it
AH! How funny am I? (Not at all, I know)
For a better description of the game you can check out the Official post on the official Steem account of the game. There you can find the game link to join it.
TLDR description: In Greed City you are yourself and with different command you can do different things. Those things include (but are not limited to) working, being a heartless thief or a gambling addict.
You can also manage your earning by buying jobs that will give you a per day earnings, buying useful object for your guild and, that's where steem comes in, buying STEEM token.
That's because every $ in the game is backed by STEEM token, that's 1 Steem every 10,000$ in game.
You can deposit STEEM token to get in game $ too.
My Opinion
What comes next will be more interesting for people who already tried to play Greed City, so check it out if you really want to fully enjoy this article.
But I don't care about your article
Legit, but I still think you should try the game, it's a good concept and with a few improvements it will be really enjoyable, as for now it's good but lacks something, that I'll try to list down below.
All of what I'm gonna write may come both from my opinion and from what I read and elaborated from the dedicated game-development chat (also in the Discord channel and open to everyone).
Long and boring list of suggestion
Joking again, please read it
Altough you'll maybe find it really boring
I should stop making those poor joke
Improvement system
For now the game is all about repeating action, with gambling being the more interactive since you have control over what happens.
A way to make the player "play" more (as for deciding and having a role in what happens, sorry for the poor english), will be to be able to improve your character. Things like choosing ability to upgrade with points earned in different way.
Said like this it sounds like classic gaming, that's why I think the players/the admins should think of a way of implementing it without being just a copy of standard game mechanics but something unique.Theft
The robbing system is for now too easy, you check out the leaderboard, check out if someone have a lot of cash not in the bank, and try to rob him. That result successful a lot of the time you try it. That makes it easy, if you have 30 minutes of free time, to get rich very quickly while it would take way more by just working.
That's why I think some solutions may be: not let anyone be able to see everyone else cash/bank $ division.
Another solution may be making robbing harder, time-limited (like work) and person-limited (you can rob/a person can be robbed a maximum of N times a day).
Or maybe making robbing an alternate choice to working. So if you robbed in the last N minutes you can't work, and you have bonus/malus in different aspect of the game, like being able to see a portion of the cash amount of people, and gaining a lot less from working.Channel rooms
There's different room to make different actions in the game. That's good for work, since for now you just have to !work. But for example I don't think it's good for bank, as for now it's divided in balance/withdraw/deposit. Changing channel for every single of those three actions takes "a lot" of time, making people not doing it, better than making them use every room for what its purpose is.
I think a "bank" channel will be better, dividing it in bank1, bank2, bank3... If there's too many message in a single one preventing it to make it usable.
The channels division is good for casino though (for example), 'cause you have one for black-jack, one for roulette, etc.Guide
As for now there's not a complete guide for the game. There's command like !inventory not explained in the presentation post, and there's some game mechanics not well explained. That's not that bad, since the game is at its start, but I made it a point of the list, to write it down and not forget it.Help channel
Just a channel where everyone can ask and everyone can respond about any doubt regarding the game.Command
Seeing wrong command being deleted (when you write a command that only an admin can use that gets deleted) I think that some of the command an user write especially the frequent ones, like !balance, can be deleted after a short amount of time. That would make the channels more readable and if an user use a command in a channel in which it's not proper to use it that wouldn't be that big of a crime.MONYE$$$
As for now, and for what I know, having money in the bank keep them safe, having them in cash just expose you to being robbed.
There should be bonus to something if you choose to keep more money in cash, other bonus if you choose to keep them in the bank, and obviously malus in both case. I also think a minimum deposit amount will be good to promote being a thief a choice for people, since as for now you can !work and right after !deposit all.
Example of some bonus may be: more money from work/job if you have more money in cash, interest on the money you have in the bank once per an established amount of time (which for what I see it can already be easily done)Jobs
As I said there's a job system, you buy job, activate them, you get N$ a day based on the jobs you bought.
I think it lacks a way to let people know when they get the money for their jobs, something like: “You have received N for Job1, N for job2... They’ve been deposited in your bank. Previous balance: $ New balance: $Community
Finding a way to make people collaborate and interact more would be good (not only the guild system, even if that can be a solution) would make the game more enjoyable.
Something like dividing work in different rooms with different work and every time someone work in that room the room gets experience and with more experience the rewards in that room get better.
There obviously need to be some limitation to this, to prevent everyone just working in the same room leaving the others abandoned.
An example would be making a room more rewarding for a short period of time, so people work more there for that time, or reset the rooms once in a while (plus the previous suggestion).Police
That's really a thing that just came to my mind, but since there are thief, why not to have policemen?
Final thoughts
I tried to write down a list of things/part of the game I think need to be improved, where I had ideas I suggested what can be done too. Please feel free to discuss about it here in the comment and also in the game-development room.
Thanks to everyone who read through the article.
Sorry for the poor english, one of the reason I'm writing that is I'm trying to improve it.
