Getting To Know Guadalajara Mexico Through The Eyes Of Locals

in #video6 years ago

One day last week, we were eating breakfast at one of our favorite restaurants in our Guadalajara neighborhood. The owner came up to us saying that he watches our videos every day and he started throwing a bunch of quotes from various videos into the conversation.

After some chatting with him, we decided to ask if he'd want us to feature his restaurant in an upcoming video since we've been wanting to showcase some local businesses and give a leg-up to some people who are working so hard to make it in this world.

Another time last week, a YouTube subscriber reached out to us saying that he'd love for us to try the coffee from his family's business. It's locally-grown organic coffee, so we were all over that offer!

In this video, we showcase a couple of great local business and get a little bit of their backstory, struggles, and experience starting a business in Mexico. After that, our day took a completely unexpected turn, and we're excited to share some of our experiences with you!

Hope you enjoy :)

Many great boxing legends came from mexico, I can just forgot mexico for I am a boxing fan also, LOL

I didn't know that, who are some of them?

Cool tour of the catacombs dudes. Still waiting for my ticket to Mexico so I can do a video with you two.

It was a pretty crazy feeling being inside there. I'm not sure if I can describe it as creepy, overwhelming, or just weird. But it was something.

I went to an old prison once where they took plaster masks of all the inmates before they hung them. That place had the strangest and darkest feeling. it was morbid. Gives me shivers just thinking about it

Hi @tangerinetravels Lovely post. Guadalajara is a beautiful city and is the second largest city in the country and it is ranked as the eighth best city to visit in Mexico and South America. Known as the land of tequila and mariachi, it is rich in history and traditions.

Guadalajara has managed to make tradition and modernity coexist in a single space because it preserves centenary culture and tradition such as charrería, folkloric dance, jarabe tapatío and tequila, but it is also the main producer of technology and software.

I'm wishing you success and growth, and happiness.
A hug.

We've seen people clash when talking about what "real" Mexico is. I think that's because there's a merging of the old and the new, in terms of both infrastructure and traditions. I think you're right in that Guadalajara has managed to make them coexist. We have a lot more of the city to explore and are really excited for what's to come!

Thanks for your wonderful comment :)

Hi @tangerinetravels Thank you very much. It is this tremendous cultural and economic diversity, distributed over an enormously complex and varied physical environment, that gives Guadalajara its unique character.

The cathedral, completed in 1618, is richly decorated. Many other churches dating from the colonial period are interspersed with modern industrial and commercial buildings. Cultural institutions of note include the Degollado Theatre, which is one of the largest and most ornate in Latin America; the State Museum of Jalisco (1918); and the Cabañas Hospice, a former 19th-century orphanage (now a museum) that was designated a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1997.

Have a nice night.
A hug

I could use with some of that coffee now. I can smell it now ... lol. It's great to see you guys are having fun in Mexico.

The more we drink it, the more we love it. And the smell!! Oh my gosh, when it touches your nose you fall in love.

Being toured around the city by a local himself is definitely the best, @tangerinetravels! Glad you had fun!

On a side note, those business fees are completely over the top! Glad he found a way through it lol 🤣

Based on what he was telling us (a lot of which didn't make it into the final video), it sounded more like bribes that they had to pay to get the restaurant started.

It was great to get a tour from a local. So helpful!

Ooh that sucks. Good thing he found a better and more brilliant way, and never gave in.

You call that a bus? Now this is a bus! (Yes, this is a regular bus in Acapulco).

Haha, wow! What a party!

Maddie, you look absolutely different, you are glowing. Really nice.

Jordan, I always love what you do with your hair. This is realllllllly good. Love the look.

I will repeat this over and over again and won't get tired of saying this. You are both amazing. You have such an adorable heart. Helping people motivates you guys. You do it so effortlessly. You are all shades of goodness like I always say. Woooow. You gave visibility to these people and I know their customer base would increase. This is not surprising why most people love you and love to associate with you. You are both a blessing. You are both a rare gift, and God sent you here to give us all a lift. I love you guys so much. Thank you for all you do.

Really glad you had fun and enjoyed the coffee with the meal. They obviously look spicy hahaha.

Yes, first time I will see you on a bus or train in Mexico, really thrilling I guess?

I am really excited with your your buddy hahaha. He gave you a valuable lesson with the blue/white buses.

That is one beautiful place I must admit. Really beautiful. The stained glasses are definitely nice looking.

Thank you for all you do.

Ahh, thanks! Such nice compliments!! This meal, thankfully, was not too spicy!! And although it doesn't have the most appetizing look, the taste was amazing!! So much flavor!

Yep, first time on the bus and train in Mexico! Probably because we walk most places. Those buildings were amazing, especially the latter! You're right, the stained glass was incredible!

I see this is not your first experience with opening of a difficult package, hahaha. I love coffee but unfortunately haven't seen coffee from Mexico here. How great of you to feature local businesses! I hope you will help them this way to grow. BTW: Laska is such a cute dog and I don't know if you know it but 'Laska' means 'Love' in Slovak 😊 - we just pronounce it with a long 'a' like laaska. Thank you for yet another great video! Traveling in Mexico seems to be so much fun! Did you make a video about safety in Mexico already? If so, can you please send me a link?

How interesting about "Laska" we've actually heard something similar about multiple languages. In one language, it meant "Cute girl" and in another, well, I don't remember what it meant. Haha!

I don't think we've done a video dedicated to safety. We've mentioned it in quite a few videos but I don't think we have a good video to link to on that topic. We'll add it to our potential video list. Thank you :)

I didn't know it had a meaning in different languages! Great to know! :)
I would really love to see a video on this so I'll be checking out your posts and hoping I will see it soon :)

Excellent video!! it seems that the boy knows very well the history of Guadalajara, sure is a great guide! It is very good to know a city through its people, that way you get to know deeply the culture. Saludos! :D

Yeah, it was a lot of fun to get shown around by him! He knew a lot about many things. We really could've done a much better job sharing all the information that he was giving us. We were new to making videos like this but will try to do a better job next time :)

Mexico is beautiful but also dangerous.

Coffee is great.

嗯,来自中国的我,想去这个餐厅玩玩,吃点东西。

wow... nice
