**The full SBD reward from this post will go to @heimindanger, the creator of DTube**
Just a few days ago, I made a post about LBRY, the blockchain video platform. I wrote about how I'm excited about the idea of publishing videos on the blockchain, but would prefer a system that takes advantage of the attention economy without paywalls, like Steemit.
My wish has come true. Am I a magic? Will all my wishes come true? I wish for 1000 BTC to randomly appear in my wallet.
...
Drat.
Well, at least one wish came true...
DTube — by @heimindanger
Steemit user @heimindanger has created a new video platform on the Steem blockchain called DTube. And it's everything I've ever wanted from a video streaming site. I'm already beginning to upload my video library library to DTube.
Every video creator on Steemit needs to check out this website and use it.
Get paid to make videos.
Ad free!
I love to see programmers tapping into the limitless potential of the Steem blockchain. This is only the beginning.
You can find me on DTube under the same username (because that's how it works).

"LBRY is better for different things. But overall, I like DTube better.
I don't like that the videos are automatically posted to Steemit. I have a feeling that the designer did that to bring more attention to the video platform. Hopefully one day that feature becomes optional.
I still haven't looked at view.ly."
I'm sorry, I just have to say, you have opened a huge bag of issues here, none of which your post here really considers...
Please talk to use about view.ly.
Please consider what it means, all videos uploaded to dTube are posted to steemit automatically, is that correct?
And why exactly, do you like LBRY less? (and what is it better for?)
Is that a huge bag of issues? It looks like one issue to me.
I don't dislike LBRY, but I'm not fond of paywalls.
What paywall exists on Lbry? I'm confused by this statement.
There aren't paywalls for use of the platform, but if you want to make money off your content other than the small user rewards, you have to set up your videos as pay-to-watch. That's a paywall.
I'd rather not restrict my content to those willing to pay to watch a 2 minute video. That's a pretty small demographic.
Ah, I see - that's an interesting perspective. Thus far most of the content up on Lbrynet is free to watch; I actually feel this is not ideal as content providers should be receiving some payment. Also, I wasn't aware of any sort of 'user award' available in Lbry - perhaps I'm misunderstanding that.
You're right, most people aren't going to pay for 2min content, so I wouldn't expect those videos to be very popular. I'd expect to begin seeing more in-video advertisement, which is somewhat normal on YouTube already.
I'm also seeing major problems with using Steemit to host video content. How would it be possible for their blockchain to host all that content? Witness nodes will end up needing to be full datacenters to support that, reducing the decentralization (the fact is, Steemit.com is the defacto centralized source for content right now). Perhaps IPFS can solve this, but at that point, you're at technical parity with Lbry.
I'm totally for competition in the market, and optimistic the best technology will win - in the end it'll be better for consumers :)
Really really good new hope thing like that will happen more :)

I aint forgetting LBRY :D ... Now I have created https://LBRY.Community - for Content Creators, Users and Developers - The Ultimate Headquarter for Projects built on the LBRY Protocol.
I love the idea of DTube and also that it is already available. However, it is posting the videos on Steemit as well instead on a seperate platform. That also means that it only brings payouts for the first seven days and then locks in. Isn't that right? So that would make LBRY a better longterm solution I suppose. And how about view.ly? They long very promising.
LBRY is better for different things. But overall, I like DTube better.
I don't like that the videos are automatically posted to Steemit. I have a feeling that the designer did that to bring more attention to the video platform. Hopefully one day that feature becomes optional.
I still haven't looked at view.ly.
I still wonder how the payouts work. It is the same with Steemit, isn't it? After seven days you get some money at that's it? Because for videos this concept doesn't work as well as with posts. A video is a long term investment and shouldn't stop be moneytized so quickly.
The automatic post to Steemit is already optional I think. You can deactivate that I have read yesterday in a comment from Heimdanger.
Yes. Since it's built on the Steem blockchain, by rule is HAS to function the same way as Steemit in terms of payouts.
I agree that the short payout time period works better with blogging than with videos.
That is kind of disappointing. But it is a good start and will help. Other platforms like LBRY are better suited for long term video monetization on a blockchain.
I have to disagree, I don't think the 7 day payout period works well for either blog posts or videos. A system that pays out every week, instead of just the first, would be much better.
While youtube is getting much irritating for ads dtube sounds like fresh air!
I really like what I've seen so far.
And also here I agree again with you 😃.
Thanks for this information. This is the first time I heard about this video platform. I will go and check it out. Upvote for you.
I'm not surprised you haven't heard of it. It literally just launched :P
I'll invite you to look at the original post and give it an upvote too!
this is a great progress on steemit blockchain.
Thanks!
