This may not be a bad starting place, but I'll have to improve it from here.
Jacob's sheep are an interesting breed, and the flock that I purchased was a good deal. I could have spent way more for each sheep, and in doing so could have gotten a much "better" herd as far as genetics are concerned. However, a deal is a deal and I've got some plans to build this one up.
MY "GENETICS" VIDEO
THE BASIC ISSUE
This is the current sire of this herd. I decided to name him @jonny-clearwater, mostly just because I can. Plus, I figured that he would appreciate it. Anyway, as far as Jacob's sheep rams, he is not exactly what you'd be looking for. First off, the lighter colored horns are undesirable. Technically, it would be better if they were black. Also, their shape and direction of growth is obviously not the best. Passing this trait on to his offspring may not be a good thing.
Moreover, the breed standard should have black around each eye that extends onto the cheek, and should have a black muzzle too. If he looked like like this, he would be a better ram to sire the flock.
Since the horns can grow different directions, this would be another acceptable variation in horn growth.
While these sheep can have up to six horns, having two or four is most common. This ewe below has two nice horns, but lacks the facial markings.
This other ewe has nice horns plus the face to match. For me, it'll be an adventure seeking out my next sire. Additionally, it'll give me an opportunity to teach the @little-peppers more about genetics and breeding animals, so it'll be a fun and educational one. At the moment, I'm just happy to have them here on the homestead.
As always, I'm @papa-pepper and here's the proof:

I herd that!
Oh man, genetics is a pain in the butt, I breed fish and have done for years, I love them so much that when I move in a couple of weeks I have plans in converting the outhouse into a fish room with 45 fish tanks.
(at the moment I have 11 fish tanks)
When it comes to breeding my fish I have to select the fish I want to breed as they can have inbreeding issues.
Normally I will source my males from one shop and my females from another. or I go to other breeders and select the ones that I want. but even then they can have fry that have defects like missing fins and deformed bodies.
then I have to cull them, which I hate doing but if i don't they pass it on to other generations and that would mean my of spring will have worse defects.
I have made my own strain of endlers through choosing different males and females and they look ace. i have had loads of interest in them and I have sold tuns of them.
But sometimes nature wants our fry to be odd looking. I have had pure black endlers and that's not heard of really. some of the people at my fish club say that is from breeding with the guppy that has caused that.
The way I see it is that if your sheep are healthy and are what they need to be I wouldn't be worried about it, they are there to serve you a pupouse and I think in years to come @jonny-clearwater will father some nice young.
happy steeming @papa-pepper it was a nice read and another good video :)
oh and the art over the sheep makes it look like a zombie sheep hehe
@artonmysleeve.
Glad that you enjoyed my zombie sheep!
they are ace mate I have got to say.
What's there milk like? I prefer it over cows milk. and I also like goats cheese too. :)
Don't know yet.
That Jonny Clearwater's horns doesn't touch his eyes right? I don't know why I'm worried about that. lol
Not at this point, but we are keeping a close eye on them. Maybe not as close as his eye, but still close.
@papa-pepper, I applaud your work and interest in genetics. For me i am not a lover of sheeps. But hope to learn to start loving sheeps. Especialky their horns scares me a lot. Your is even having up to 6 horns. So terific!
They sure are interesting!
this is a very nice and unique sheep @papa-pepper, but its horn is what will not harm the eyes of the sheep itself, because I see the horn is almost into the eyes of the sheep itself.
At this point, they do not touch, so it is fine so far.
Yes, Yes, Yes,,,,
what kind of sheep, because the horns are very strange, not like sheep in our place.
very unique sheep.

I know about such sheeps. They have 6 horns sometimes. And they are different from other sheeps
Well-done post @papa-pepper. I always love you for your post.
The sheep are very photogenic and knows where is the camera!!! lol
That they do!
Very interesting, I have learned something, I did not reflect. Thanks
The first impression makes me think something wrong has been committed. I think of the Bible, as in Noah's ......
Feeling sorry for the animal, it does not seem so pleasing to them with so many horns in the face, cross and cross.
I also have a goat, is very healthy all
)
Wish to know the breed of this goat thanks for bringing new things here
Jocobs sheep
You are living the good life. How I wish I could keep a flock of sheep and live life closer to nature but may be for now I will just have to live vicariously through these posts on steemit :)
Live vicariously! BY all means!
Also, thanks so much for the encouragment.
I was told stuff about you and obviously it was said well. I am new here, Just had my first post and I wasn't disappointed by this first post of yours I'm seeing. you are an inspirer.thanks sir!
hahaha drawing on animals pictures is always funny, nice one papa-pepper! 😹
I really hope you get the right crossing for them. They really have horns growing in different directions as you pointed out Papa. I was a little surprised with the one with only one big horn.
See the way they ran towards you. They love Papa. Hahaha.
At least you have a great start and may be able to play swaps for what you want.
Even without the horns and face marking they will milk, shear and come to tea if required
Yup, you are very correct!
You really know your onion....
Genetics is an interesting aspect of biology that really portrays amazing genetics attributes of living things.
Truly that horn projecting forward is not really nice stall talk more of passing this genetic trait to its next filial generation.
At this juncture , crossing breeding can play a role here, though it will really cost much to do this in the lab to get a good result.
Be it as it may, variation remains a phenomenon among living things.
Love your hypothetically picture-designed breed, lol. That would really be interesting to see it in reality.
Good morning, ingenious @papa-peper
We will see if I can get one that looks like that!
The ram are looking more like human to me. The gesture on there faces is superb. Ride on my bro.
@stevenmosoes
Johny is a good name @papa-pepper. Very nice!
Great blog! Interesting too! <3
Jacobs breed are quite interesting. Of particular note is the shade of its horns, not the conventional type we are familiar with over here in Nigeria. But i did not notice any significant size, or is it the picture. You over here we are much more interested in fattening. This is because it is good for business during the Muslim festival of Ram sacrifices.
my contribution https://steemit.com/video/@zafar82/translation-to-indonesian-contemplating-the-genetics-of-our-flock-by-papa-pepper
Got it, thanks!
You have the beginnings of your herd. You know pretty much what you need to do to make them stronger and more desirable. Small steps, @papa-pepper. Small steps. They are all healthy and that is important for right now.
Healthy first, then improve. Thanks!
you really understand about the sheep, I am proud of you whatever you want hopefully achieved, hopefully your business smoothly
Im gonna show this post to my husband, thanks for great information !!
Is there a reason why black horns are preffered?
I know with dogs that you shouldnt mate two merle coated dogs. The resulting litter of puppies has a high chance of containing 'double merles' or 'lethal whites', dogs that have very little or no colour to their coat at all. Double merles are highly likely to suffer from eye or ear deformities (in some cases both) which at the most extreme can result in complete blindness and deafness.
The merle coat is a indication of a gene mutation, so is there a similar health reason for not wanting lighter horns or just that its not how they are supposed to look?
I think it is a sign of overall genetic health, with those being not as good of a gene pool.
The whole time you were talking about the ram... when you mentioned killing and eating him so casually, I thought for a moment he understood you and tweaked his head a bit... lol
An interesting task ahead for you, to create an ideal herd. So good luck on finding the right ram.
Still laughing at how the ram was looking at you as you spoke about his unfavorable qualities... made me feel weird too.
I'll have to take a look at that. Thanks for letting me know.
Be careful about genetics and culling your stock. A better male in the long run is good, but the male you have isn't the worst either. If you can't find the male your looking for right away don't waste time use Mr. Clearwater to keep your flock growing. To quote someone I don't prefer to name "Quantity has a quality all it's own." If Jacob could manipulate a huge herd's genetics than "ewe" can manipulate a larger group of animals too. Sorry for the pun, but @cyberblock started it and you piled on.
