"The Doors of Hell" even after 40 years remains a puzzle for scientists (Video)

 Stunning images, as many visitors call "doors to hell", a crater caused by a drilling mistake, to this day there has remained a riddle for scientists, as the fire fails to turn off for more than 40 years.

 The 70-meter wide crater, located near the Derweze village in Turkmenistan, was named "The Door To Hell," by locals, referring to endless blaze and muddy boiling inward within it.

Initially, this leveled surface was identified by Soviet scientists in 1971 as an area believed to be a major source of gas.

A camp was set up nearby, after the Soviets were happy with the amount of gas resources they believed would find there.

 However, the ground beneath the drilling surface began to collapse very rapidly, creating a broad crater believed to have released large amounts of methane gas, a potential risk to nearby villages in Turkmenistan.

More than four decades later, although the crater is still in flames, every year hundreds of tourists flock to visit it.

The Karakum Desert, where Derweze is located, has one of the largest gas reserves in the world.

A visitor, Will Keeping, says the crater was one of the hundred oddest places to visit before dying. Intrigued, he decided to go to the gloomy setting, not knowing what to expect.

During the day, I was not impressed because it originally seemed like a hole in a big desert. But getting closer and the shine from inside the crater began to become clearer, I began to understand the size of the crater and wonder how it is possible to shine it steadily, "says Will Keeping.

"The more I was approaching, it became clear that it was a large crater and that inside it was like a large open oven."

"At first, it seemed that it might have been a natural phenomenon, but the crater ends were opposing this finding. I could see rusty rubbish of some metal bars or structures, to make it clear that a kind of catastrophe had happened here long ago. "

"While I was standing there looking at the crater, the size and intensity of the fire inside became more and more apparent," explains Keeping Visitor admiring the crater.
