Honoring All Who Served

This weekend in North America (Canada and the United States), we bring to memory the sacrifices of those that have served our Nations in uniform. Young men and women that heard the call to serve in harms way on behalf of their Countries.

This short submission highlights a few of these individuals' contributions and insights into the lives of those that heard the call of their Countrymen and answered. Some are not well known, but none the less have made great contributions to the betterment of their Nations and the World.

Being a retired Military Veteran myself, I understand the joys and heartaches that are part of being a military Veteran. Many of us feel very uncomfortable being called heroes, yet we do consider ourselves members of a very special group, sisters and brothers who share the experiences specifically inherent of being the warriors of our Nations.

A Pacifist Who Was A War Hero

I do not know if the younger generation is familiar with the story of Sergeant York. This was a man that received the highest military honor, the Congressional Medal of Honor, for his bravery and military prowess. He has been immortalized in films, books, and comic books. Many have labeled him as the greatest sniper ever.

Many do not know that this son of the the great State of Tennessee was a pacifist and very devout Christian. He originally did not wish to serve due to his religious beliefs. None the less, he did serve and became an American icon. There was a movie in which he was immortalized by Gary Cooper describing his life and exploits. There are none that hate war more than those that have experienced it.

To their faith and ours that a day will come when man will live in peace on earth... —Warner Bros, Inc. 1941

Canada And The Great War

A great many folk don't know about the Canadian involvement in the great war. Many heroes were had and one of the greatest, which some do not know, is Francis Pegahmagabow...

This man is considered the greatest Canadian sniper of World War I. A wonderful man and a true Canadian as he was an Aboriginal. Many of our heroes of North America are members of what are known as the First Nations. I served in the Corps with many Aboriginal Americans, or more commonly known as Indians by some of us old folk. A brave and loyal people!

Military Veterans Of Steem

There are a great many Military Veterans on the STEEM platform from all around the world. You can find a list of those that we have vetted as Military Veterans here: https://steemit.com/@chairborne/followed.

A number of the Veterans here on STEEM have graciously decided to host a Poker Tournament to honor the world's military Veterans on the STEEM Poker League (SPL) site also know as Lucksacks Poker. I have decided to also honor our Veterans, past and present, by donating to the reward pool with a valuable #steemmonster card...

I will coordinate with the folks at @spl to ensure that the winner of the tournament receives the #steemmonsters card.

Please thank those that you know have served in uniform this weekend. A thank you is much appreciated. I know that many of us would say, Whether folks show their appreciation or not, we would do it all again. We serve, that is how we roll.

Thank you for taking the time to read my post. I wish everyone blessings and groovy vibes.

@miryam was the winner of the Veterans Day Poker Tournament! Much congratulations! She donated the STEEM Monster Card that she won to @guiltyparties. Her reasoning was his service and also being one of the sponsors of the Poker Tournament. One just has to love it when a plan comes together!

I want to thank again sponsors @guiltyparties, @bethalea, @tuckfheman, @anarcho-andrei, @derangedvisions, @jackmiller, @aggroed, long time @SPL supporter @themarkymark, @teamgood and of course the @SPL community to include those that participated in the tournament! Your participation has brought attention and honor to the service of all our Veterans, both past and present.

Excellent post! It's disheartening to see how many people in our great country take Veteran's Day for granted. So few pause to think about the sacrifices made by service men and women, both living and deceased, that result in the freedom and liberty we know today.

Hey thanks for commenting. Just shared the video so that people might get a bit of insight into who Veterans are. Just people that had the unfortunate experience of serving in a very demanding and sad part of the human experience.
