Hola a todos, como pudieron leer en el título de este post, les hablaré sobre mi experiencia al ganar un Airdrop valorado en $1.000 💵 en Bitcoin (BTC) desde Venezuela 🇻🇪 y algunos tips para poder hacerte con uno de ellos sin morir en el intento 😅.
Hello everyone, as you could read in the title of this post, I will tell you about my experience in winning an Airdrop valued at $1,000 💵 in Bitcoin (BTC) from Venezuela 🇻🇪 and some tips to be able to get one without dying in the attempt 😅.
Pasando el rato en internet (específicamente en Youtube), a mediados de diciembre noté que había demasiados videos relacionados a un AirDrop de una nueva blockchain llamada Aptops.
Hanging out on the internet (specifically YouTube), in mid-December I noticed that there were too many videos related to an AirDrop of a new blockchain called Aptops.

Según un artículo sacado de la academia de Binance un AirDrop es :
Estrategia de marketing adoptada por startups de criptomonedas para promocionar su proyecto y nuevo token. Consiste en distribuir su criptomoneda nativa a usuarios actuales o potenciales de manera gratuita. A veces, los usuarios deben completar actividades promocionales sencillas antes de poder reclamar los tokens, como seguir la cuenta de redes sociales del proyecto y compartir sus publicaciones... According to an article taken from Binance academy an AirDrop is :
Marketing strategy adopted by cryptocurrency startups to promote their project and new token. It consists in distributing their native cryptocurrency to current or potential users for free. Sometimes, users must complete simple promotional activities before they can claim the tokens, such as following the project's social media account and sharing its posts... Cuando me fui a investigar un poco más me enteré de que la nueva plataforma en su fase de pruebas, envió 150 tokens a los usuarios que habían interactuado solicitando el airdrop, con un valor estimado en unos $1.000 a $1.700 dependiendo del momento en el cual pudieran cambiarlos a una moneda estable (todo esto totalmente gratis).
When I went to do a little more research I learned that the new platform in its testing phase, sent 150 tokens to users who had interacted by requesting the airdrop, with an estimated value of about $1,000 to $1,700 depending on when they could exchange them to a stable currency (all this totally free of charge).
Obviamente, cuando intente ingresar ya era demasiado tarde, pero eso genero en mi la curiosidad de seguir investigando a fondo el tema de los airdrops de proyectos relacionados al mundo crypto.
Obviously, when I tried to enter it was already too late, but that generated in me the curiosity to continue investigating in depth the topic of airdrops of projects related to the crypto world.
Lo primero que hice fue ir a Google y buscar donde poder encontrar algunos airdrops, con solo escribir esa palabra en el buscador pude ver qué había demasiado contenido al respecto, pero como no todo lo que brilla es oro, gran parte de los supuestos airdrops que recomendaban ciertos "experto" en la materia eran un scam o estafa.
The first thing I did was to go to Google and search where to find some airdrops, just by typing that word in the search engine I could see that there was too much content about it, but as all that glitters is not gold, much of the alleged airdrops recommended by certain "experts" in the field were a scam.
En el caso de los scam los pude dejar a un lado tomando en cuenta lo siguiente:
In the case of scams I could leave them aside taking into account the following:
Pedían dinero por adelantado: Si la naturaleza del airdrop es hacer una estrategia de marketing de las plataformas o tokens regalando a sus usuarios, pedir dinero adelantado no se ma hacia coherente.
Había poca información sobre el proyecto (incluso nada): Por lo general los proyectos cuentan con una página web oficial, redes sociales, entre otros, para difundir información sobre la ruta de desarrollo del mismo (si nada de eso existe, puedes salir corriendo de ahí).
El contrato no estaba listado: Esto es super importante porque el contrato inteligente al ser público puede ser auditado y si está listado páginas como Coinmarketcap puedes obtener información relevante del proyecto.
Cabe destacar que si hay airdrops legítimos que piden que interactues con su plataforma haciendo transacciones de intercambio en el caso de los Swap, pero no por un monto especifico ni haciendo transacciones hacia tu billetera de manera indiscriminada. Yo en ese momento no tenía la más mínima intención de invertir dinero en algo que podía ser efímero (soy freelancer, el dinero no me cae del cielo como para regalarlo 🙂).
They asked for money in advance: If the nature of airdrop is to make a marketing strategy of the platforms or tokens giving away to its users, asking for money in advance is not coherent.
There was little or no information about the project: Usually projects have an official website, social networks, among others, to disseminate information about the development path of the project (if none of that exists, you can run away from there).
The contract was not listed: This is super important because the smart contract being public can be audited and if it is listed on pages like Coinmarketcap you can get relevant information about the project.
It is worth noting that yes there are legitimate airdrops that ask you to interact with their platform making transactions exchange in the case of Swap, but not for a specific amount or making transactions to your wallet indiscriminately. At that time I didn't have the slightest intention of investing money in something that could be ephemeral (I'm a freelancer, money doesn't fall from the sky to give it away 🙂 ).
Cuidarme de las estafas | What I did to guard against scams
Por lo general la Web3 o Web descentralizada funciona mediante transacciones, razón por la cual contar con una Billetera/Wallet es indispensable.

Para iniciar cree una cuenta en #Metamask que es una billetera con un funcionamiento parecido a la que usamos aquí en Hive (KeyChain).

Como la mayoría de los Airdrops que encontraba eran parte de la Binance Smart Chain (BCS) y para interactuar con ellos podía tener un cargo por fee (es una pequeña porción de saldo que consumes al realizar una transacción), en ese momento envié unos $5 desde #Binance a mi billetera, pero ya solo me quedan $0,33
Since most of the Airdrops I encountered were part of the Binance Smart Chain (BCS) and to interact with them I could have a fee charge (it's a small portion of balance you consume when making a transaction), at that time I sent about $5 from #Binance to my wallet, but now I only have $0.33 left.
Dato curioso | Curious fact
Antes de tener saldo en Metamask me pasó que gané un airdrop y no tenía saldo disponible para pagar el fee al reclamarlo 🤦♂. Entonces fue que aprendí que dependiendo a la blockchain a interactuar debía tener tokens nativos (por ejemplo la blockchain de Hive usa HBD y así).
Before having a balance in Metamask it happened to me that I won an airdrop and I had no balance available to pay the fee when I claimed it 🤦♂. Then I learned that depending on the blockchain to interact with I had to have native tokens (for example the Hive blockchain uses HBD and so on).
Sin más dinero que el necesario para pagar fee y con un correo que no está vinculado a cosas importantes para mí, me fui en búsqueda de un potencial Airdrop.
With no more money than I needed to pay the fee and with an email that is not linked to things that are important to me, I went in search of a potential Airdrop.
De tanto buscar y participar en Airdrops sin tener mucha información sobre los proyectos, pensé en buscar algunas webs que me ayudaran en ese proceso de validar la información de cada proyecto.
After so much searching and participating in Airdrops without having much information about the projects, I thought I would look for some websites that could help me in the process of validating the information of each project.

Una web en la que me podía suscribir de forma gratuita y estar al tanto de posibles Airdrops genuinos, a demás de ver los pasos para participar, listan información relevante sobre cada proyecto y por si fuera poco permiten ver los proyectos que son tendencia o tienen mayor interacción con los usuarios.
A website where I could subscribe for free and be aware of possible genuine Airdrops, in addition to seeing the steps to participate, they list relevant information about each project and as if that were not enough, they allow me to see the projects that are trending or have more interaction with users.
El primer paso para el Airdrop que seleccione en ese momento (film.io), era registrarse en una web de concursos (gleam.io) y seguir los pasos (compartir en redes sociales, entre otros). Entonces me gustó esa manera de controlar las acciones de cada usuario de forma transparente para determinar el ganador:

Luego de un tiempo a la espera de resultados, para mi sorpresa veo que en el Discord oficial de film.io y en todas sus redes sociales habían anunciado que el ganador era de Venezuela, en ese momento entre a Twitter, Instagram y Facebook y mi sorpresa fue la siguiente:
After a while waiting for the results, to my surprise I saw that in the official Discord of film.io and in all their social networks they had announced that the winner was from Venezuela, at that moment I entered Twitter, Instagram and Facebook and my surprise was the following:
Aunque se hizo un poco tarde para la entrega, el día de ayer se confirmó la transacción por 0.0594107 que para el momento que fue anunciado el resultado del ganador el precio de Bitcoin rondaba los $17.000 (7 de diciembre de 2022), pero la transacción fue completada el día de ayer 28 de enero de 2023 cuando Bitcoin estaba entrando a los $23.000 lo que sígnica que no llegaron $1.000 sino unos $1.370 (y sigue subiendo).
Although it was a bit late for delivery, the transaction was confirmed yesterday for 0.0594107 which by the time the winner's result was announced the Bitcoin price was around $17,000 (December 7, 2022), but the transaction was completed yesterday January 28, 2023 when Bitcoin was entering the $23,000 which means not $1,000 but about $1,370 (and rising).
Para mí todo esto ha sido increíble porque años atrás era imposible. Incluso hasta impensable ganar dinero por internet, simplemente era casi un sueño (vengo desde el internet Dial-up ese que te dejaba sin teléfono si estabas navegando en internet 🙃). ¡La Web3 vino a quedarse con todo!
For me all this has been incredible because years ago it was impossible. Even unthinkable to earn money online, it was just a dream (I come from the Dial-up internet that left you without phone if you were surfing the internet 🙃). The Web3 came to take over everything!
¿Que hice para no perder dinero? | What did I do to not lose money?
Lo primero que hice fue retirar a una moneda estable unos $370 (USDT) que era el excedente por la subida de Bitcoin y en el trading spot de Binance cree una operación límite para que se ejecutara una orden de venta si el precio bajaba de los $23.000 y de esa manera seguir contando con los $1.000 sin perdidas.
The first thing I did was to withdraw to a stable currency about $370 (USDT) which was the surplus from the Bitcoin rise and in Binance spot trading I created a limit trade so that a sell order would be executed if the price went below $23,000 and that way I could continue to count on the $1,000 without losses.

Coinmarketcap es una buena opción los meses pasados estuvieron muy activos, incluso pude ganar unos 2 airdrops pero no fueron de montos elevados ni nada por el estilo (un par de NFT y algunos tokens de poco valor). Actualmente, no hay alguno listado, pero siempre me mantengo al tanto por ahí de lo que viene.
Coinmarketcap is a good option last months were very active, I was even able to win some 2 airdrops but they were not of high amounts or anything like that (a couple of NFT and some small value tokens). Currently, there aren't any listed, but I always keep an eye out there for what's coming up.
Por ahora sigo en la búsqueda, así que si alguien de la comunidad sabe algo al respecto puede dejarme acá su experiencia en comentarios y de esa manera apoyarnos entre todos.
