Could Venezuela be the next country that needs some "freedom?"

in #venezuela7 years ago

The oil rich nation continues to descend into chaos. Food shortages are getting worse. There's no toilet paper. People are eating zoo animals and dying in hospitals. This week nearly 200 thousand people marched in protest against the sitting government. Theories abound as to the true master is behind the curtain, if there is one. Certainly years of government mismanagement and corruption caused their downfall. But does not seem (to me at least) that unreasonable that the US could get dragged into an event down there, under the guise of "freedom". If President Maduro continues to fight against his own people, troops could be sent in as "peace keepers" and he could be set up as the fall guy. Not that he doesn't deserve it...

That's assuming that his own people don't get to him first. The police and military will most certainly start to turn against the government if they don't get paid. They have families in desperate straights too. And with inflation nearing 720 percent, and a fresh round of sanctions from our nation, it's probably safe to say that the situation will unbelievably get worse. What concerns me is our possible involvement. I understand the government of Venezuela is a bad one. Absolutely without question. But why would you put sanctions on now, when the country is at its lowest? Maduro is already in enough trouble, he will need to try and regain control soon or his prognosis looks doubtful. And sanctions generally affect those who can least afford it, ie, the people out there marching. I am hoping that with the new administration, we will learn to leave other nations as they are. Venezuela needs to figure this out on their own, as hard as that may seem. Our presence there would not help. A lot of our involvement in other nations has less to do with Democracy and more of pillaging its resources for our own governments gain. I say our government, because the taxpayers will pay to send troops but never see any return on our investment.(not that we would want gain on someone else's suffering but you get what I mean) They certainly need new leadership down there, but they can do so, must do so, without us. If you think the people are suffering there now, they will certainly suffer more if our government gets involved.

But there's a lot of oil down there....

Sort:

The protest have months now, i don't see an ending to this. The opposition doesn't want elections, since they will cheat or do whatever they can to stay in power.
The situation is full of irony, they fighted to keep the oil for themself, start stealing everything and calling the US the enemy.
Everything's a conspiracy, nothing is their fault.
