Vendée Globe: The Battle Against the Anticyclone

in #vendee3 days ago

Vendée Globe is going on, actually it’s more about patience than speed. A massive anticyclonic zone is blocking the way south for the fleet, and the race is starting to feel like a chess match.

Southwest of the Canary Islands, the leaders have hit a wall of light winds, and their speeds have dropped dramatically. Meanwhile, the skippers behind them are catching up (me too), making the most of this unexpected slowdown. It’s like watching a slingshot in action: will the leaders break free first, or will the chasers close the gap completely?

On Virtual Regatta I find myself like in the same boat. My group is taking a central route, hoping to punch through the middle of the anticyclone. It’s a gamble: we might find a shortcut, but there’s also the risk of getting stuck in the light winds for too long.

Meanwhile, the skippers heading west are playing it safe by going around the bubble, but they’re sailing extra miles to do it.

It’s a tense moment. Every decision counts, and it feels like one wrong move could send me down in the rankings. But honestly, this is what makes it so exciting. 😁

For now, I’ll keep tweaking my route and hoping for the best. Let’s see who comes out of the anticyclone first! ⛵
