Vendée Globe: Records, Cape of Good Hope, and My Virtual challenge ⛵

in #vendee25 days ago

Vendée Globe never ceases to amaze. After smashing 24-hour distance records (Sebastien Simon’s latest being a staggering 615 miles) the frontrunners have reached the Cape of Good Hope. The leading pack has now just four boats: Charlie Dalin, closely followed by Sebastien Simon, Thomas Ruyant, and Yoann Richomme. They’re all within 50 miles of each other, making this an incredibly tight and thrilling race.

Meanwhile, in my own Virtual Regatta adventure, I'm trying to leave the Atlantic behind and am heading south toward South Africa. My position goes up and down between 50,000th and 100,000th, but I feel a comeback brewing. I’m trailing the main group and, with the right move, I could gain significant ground in a reasonably short time.

The race is still long, and patience and strategy will be key. Every decision, whether made by the real skippers out there or by us virtual sailors, can shift the course of the competition. Remember, this isn’t a sprint, it’s like a marathon!

For now, I’ll keep studying the winds and planning my next moves, hoping to edge closer to the leaders! ⛵

I'm loving following the race this year but what I'm really looking forward to is the Miniglobe race 2025 in which all the boats are home built and just 5.80m long! Have a read here
