I've been quite overwhelemed in life lately, the boys are both in sports and there is a neverending list of tasks for me at home. But when a friend in need calls with a problem I just hafta help him out. My friend is heading out to Calgary for his sons basketball tournament this long weekend but his battery light came on.
Look way down there, further, further, there it is-the faulty alternator.
You can see it a little better now with a few components removed.
Here is an important always overlooked step. Charge the battery before running the new alternator so you don't tax it too much.
Old and new.
Final check: it's charging just fine.
All done... Except he said"Oh I have new spark plugs in the truck too if you have enough time". It's a good thing too, this plug is damaged!
Now my friend is ready for a family toad trip.
I'm @edthecanadian your friendly neighborhood automotive service technician. All photos are taken by me in my garage with my greasy old Samsung Galaxy S6.
Wow. That plug was in rough shape. Kinda makes you wonder where that piece of electrode insulation went....
Ah it's a Honda, it eats stuff like that and says"thank you sir may I have another!"
🤣🤣🤣
Thank you for your continued support of SteemSilverGold
A great friend you are, making the time to help him out :)
Wow that plug is missing some insulation wonder if it got through the engine with out damaging anything.
Thanks for showing me a picture of those spark plugs, just got another project for my Honda. Dang that alternator looks squeezed in there how much did you have to remove to get at it?
It wasn't that bad actually. The coolant and power steering bottles easily moved aside, then the top bolt of the alternator goes into a small bracket that unbolts and gets removed. The toughest part was fishing it up and over and up and then turn and then over some more and up again.
This is pretty cool, thanks for sharing.
Personally I try to find a rebuild place but few can afford to be left few days without their ride.
You are an awesome friend;D
Happy wrenching!
Thanks for stopping in😊

Congratulation edthecanadian! Your post has appeared on the hot page after 10min with 5 votes.
Hmmm... Do you know how to pimp a ride, like the Mtv base show?
Sure, I can put lights all over you're whip.
You are a very handy friend to have, that looks like a tricky job getting to the alternator and that is a great tip to recharge the battery before connecting it to the new alternator.
I take it you friend new he was down on power a bit if he had spare plugs handy - it's amazing that old one was still sparking!

Exito.
Awesome story my fellow Canadian!! @edthecanadian
