A Closer Look at a Sailboat Home: Vehicle Photography Contest

Continuing to look back on our sailboat life, today I'm posting more about our actual sailboat. This was a Norman Cross 46 foot Trimaran. That being said, this is my entry for Vehicle Photography Challenge by @juliank

It was our home, true, but it also took us many places that we never would have been able to go with a typical vehicle!

This sailboat took us from Palm Springs, FL, down the coast and through the Florida Keys before we left to cross to the Bahamas. We thren traveled down through the Bahama islands, exploring as we went. The boat eventually made its way to Turks & Caicos and the Dominican Republic before making it's way back to Palm Springs, where she became another persons' adventuring companion.

The actual layout of the boat is really interesting, making use of every inch of space, this boat was laid out perfectly for our family. We had @serapium and I in one of the back cabins, @abyni in the other back cabin. @knightengale was in one of the side hull cabins with @loliboofae & @schmwke in the other. The four pets on board tended to sleep whever they wanted. Sometimes with the humans, sometimes in the salon and sometimes out on deck... that is when they weren't running about all night while the rest of us tried to sleep! We spent time together on deck or in the salon (aka living room) during the heat of the day or in bad weather.

Here is a good photo for perspective. We had the boat hauled out so that we could repaint the bottom. Here she is, 'parked' next to a semi trailer. See? She looks HUGE!!! We spent almost a week, scraping down the sides, painting a sealing coat and then extra coats of bottom paint that is supposed to help protect the bottom of the boat, especially in more stagnant water where there are a lot of barnacles and such clinging to the bottom.

And here is another view... Abyni is swimming between two of the hulls in the Bahamas:

Here is @abyni resting on one of the trampolines on the front deck while we were sailing on a super calm day.

Since she was the smallest (and nearly the strongest) @abyni was often the one to go up the mast to do minor repairs (or to take photos). Another boat took this photo when they saw her up on the mast. It's a crazy perspective to realize how small she is compared to the boat!

Annnnd, my favorite photo that @abyni took from up on the mast: A bird's eye view of our boat! If you want a little more perspective, you can see Tiberius curled up on the front deck if you look closely and Patrick standing next to him with his fuzzy blue Monster hat.

Any questions about living on a sailboat?

We're going to do a Q&A soon with @serapium and myself... and maybe the kids, too, if you have questions for them! Leave your questions in the comments and I'll compile them for a future post!

Thank you! I'll have to point my husband in your direction :) He would love reading more sailing blogs, I'm sure!

definitely! let him know, and do check the discord link if you or your hubby want to join the chat.

Lots of great adventures I'm sure.

My wife and I are currently cruising on a searunner trimaran.
I imagine we have been to many of the same places.

Look forward to reading more of your adventures.

Awesome! We started on a pretty typical route for cruisers. We hope to get out again someday... it's just hard to leave the adult kids. We see them several times a week and we're all really close, so the distance really drove me batty. My husband and son that were on the boat would go back in a heartbeat if they had the chance, though! It was a wonderful adventure. Hopefully we get to go again some time.

Thanks for taking the time to comment! I hope you and your wife have a wonderful adventure and safe travels!

Didn’t know exploring a shipwreck can be this cool (especially the underwater shot!). I myself trying to learn free diving too but still not able to make it more than 1 min with limited stamina.

Our son @knightengale spent quite a lot of time free diving. He worked his way up over two years to being able to dive 75 feet and go for three minutes. Keep at it!

This is amazing! I also believe in continuous training and pushing the limit. All the best to your son :)

wonderful, I would be afraid to be so high hehe.

Wow! What great photos and stories of your adventure. The Caribbean is such a gorgeous free spirited place. It must have been nice to be free to just head off to where ever the winds would take you. I look forward to seeing and reading more of you adventure.
