My blog has been pretty inactive for the past couple of weeks and I have missed a few UFC events which I would have liked to have posted about. However it is not because I have given up or lost faith in this platform, I hope to begin posting regularly again real soon and share my thoughts on all the goings on at the World Cup.
What has been keeping me away from my computer is that I recently achieved a lifelong dream and visited Las Vegas. It was an amazing experience, the best week of my life so far! However I am a little restricted when it comes to sharing what we got up to as it was my brothers bachelor party and whatever happens in Vegas is supposed to stay there.
So this is just a brief update with a few pictures of things I can share and a few opinions for anyone thinking of visiting Vegas.
This is the first picture taken in the USA, right after stepping off the plane. It was a really long day of travel, 24 hours after leaving my home in England @jclark had finally made it to Clark County!
While there a few of us did do some regular tourist things too and went to check out the Grand Canyon, it's definitely worth checking out, seeing it on TV or in pictures doesn't do it any justice at all. It really is something you have to go to, see and experience yourself. The feeling you get while standing right by the edge is thrilling, like you are standing on the edge of the world.
On the way back we went via the Hoover Dam, we only passed by so couldn't get too many pictures but it was interesting to see and I was struck by how low the water levels actually are.
Other stuff we got up to which I can divulge is checking out a local gun range and firing off plenty of rounds. You were supposed to not have been under the influence of alcohol at the gun range but we managed to get away with it and even more amazingly managed to hit the targets more often than not. Some people have strong feelings against guns however it was so much fun. I can definitely see why so many Americans are so strongly against them being banned.
We also took in a few Vegas shows and I would seriously recommend checking out Michael Jackson "One" by Cirque du Soleil. It was mind blowing and easily the most entertaining show I have ever been to see. The music was amazing throughout, the dancing and performers were incredible and there is a whole lot more that goes on during the show too which will leave you stunned. It's well worth going to see, even if you aren't necessarily a MJ fan. It's been over a week now since I saw it and I still can't get Dirty Diana out of my head.
Vegas is a brilliant place and there are so many wonderful sights to see, we stayed at the Luxor hotel towards the end of the strip. While it was not the main reason when booking this hotel we definitely appreciated the giant beam of light that shines out the top of it at night. It made staggering back to the hotel at the end of the night much easier and is no doubt the main reason why none of our group ended up missing and living beneath Vegas in the storm drains.
At the other end of The Strip is the Stratosphere, it's not quite as grand as The Grand Canyon however there is a bar at the top of this and some pretty cool views. While we enjoyed a few beers and an elevator ride back down we got my brother to take a slightly faster route and had him base jump off the top. He was really nervous about it at first but then said he loved it once he was hurtling down through the air.
After a few nights out on The Strip we decided to venture away from the super casino's and head Downtown. We immediately regretted not doing so much sooner and even wished we had stayed Downtown too. The Strip is a cool place and was really wild on Saturday night however the other days it was pretty dead. We went down to Fremont Street on a Monday night at about 8 o' clock and it was buzzing like there was a Mardi Gras. The beers were also $2-$4 here as appose to the $12-$16 on The Strip and there was live entertainment playing right on the street for everyone to enjoy.
It was a fantastic experience down in Fremont Street and we continued to make our way to there for each night of our stay from that point. We had such an amazing time we unanimously agreed that we are going to head back to Vegas but next time will be staying Downtown, a few locals told us the was "The Real Vegas" and we had more fun there for sure!
So that is where I have been and some of what I have been up to while my blog remained inactive. I've been home now for a few days but due to the lack of sleep and extensive travelling I have not had the energy to sit and write anything.
Hopefully you enjoyed this post and I will be back again soon.
The pictures are awesome. :)
Thank you!
Have you ever been? I am currently looking at booking another trip for next year.
Unfortunately no, but in the next few years I would be delighted to visit Las Vegas. :)
Nice photos. I hope one day to visit Las Vegas as well. It looks like you had lots of fun.
It was a amazing experience, you should absolutely visit some day.
All I have done since returning is wish I was back there.
