RE: Vegan Anarchy: Do animals have the right to life, liberty & the pursuit of happiness?

Hidden divinity. Because they have no speech, they are not Divine are sentient beings. This is how most of my friends look at this issue. My personal belief is if the animal is sustainably harvested and slaughtered in a compassionate manner, then eat meat, but if it causes undue suffering, if the animals are tortured in a slaughterhouse, then no abstain from meat!

Sort:

There is no compassionate way to take the life of an animal that wants to live. If you are violating another being's free will/consent, it is, by definition, a violation of that animal's life.

Example: Let's say you raised a dog and treated him well for a few years, and then decided to slit his throat - such an act is not compassionate or humane, regardless of how well the animal was treated in the past.
