How to make your own cannabis infused brownies!
Tis the season to be jolly, however if you don't want to drink alcohol to differentiate your mood and enjoy Christmas what else can you do? How about make some cannabis edibles?!
I am not an expert at infusing cannabis into food and by no means am I an accomplished baker, but I have a decent understanding on how to make cannabutter and a decent idea on how to make vegan brownies.
There are many more informative people out there who can go into more detail, but what I will show you is one method that you can go away now with and create your own cannabutter (which you can use however you wish) and a vegan brownie recipe.

Cannabutter
To get the full effects of your cannabis from eating it you first need to infuse the THC into something that the body can absorb, we will be using the fat from a dairy free butter alternative. As long as it has a high fat content any butter should be suitable for use in this recipe.
I used 7g of weed (UK cheese) in 250g of butter. In my recipe this will make about 12 brownies.
You can use more or less cannabis depending on what you see fit
I can't fully explain how much weed you should use or how strong it will be, as it completely depends on the strain that you have and your own personal tolerance levels. I no longer smoke cannabis so I know that I get more affected than my friends who smoke daily. It will be up to you to understand your limits and I suggest eating a small amount first and waiting at least an hour to gauge how potent it is for you.
Making The Butter
You will need
-Cannabis (I used 7g)
-250g of Butter or dairy free alternative
-Saucepan
-cup of water
-Something to strain the debris (I use womens tights)
-A container for it to solidify in
Melt the butter into a sauce pan, do not let it boil. Once it starts to simmer you add a cup of water, from now on you just want the butter/water mix to simmer only and not to full on boil. The job of the water is to stop the butter cooking and caramelising/burning whilst it simmers.
Add your bud. No need to grind it fully, just break it apart into bits and add it. This helps with the straining later.
You need to let this mixture simmer for approximately 3 hours. What will happen is as the weed is heated up the THC in the cannabis will start to leave the plant and infuse itself with the fat in the butter. Your job is to give it enough time to happen, some people suggest longer and some others less. 3 hours is what works for me.
Again - Do Not Let It Boil Doing this may cause the THC to lose it's effectiveness.Strain off your mixture through a sieve/ muslin cloth / tights. Anything that is going to allow your butter THC mixture through and separate the non-potent leftover material. Refrigerate the mixture overnight and the butter will solidify on top of the water remaining in the mixture. Remove the hard layer of butter and dispose of the water. You now have your very own super potent bit of butter for use in baking!!
Now with this butter, you can use it in your everyday baking or add it to recipes such as a curry to give it a dose of the highlife.
Here I used some tights (specifically bought for this) and a funnel to strain the mixture
Brownies
To make good weed edibles your main mission is to mask the taste of weed. This is hard to do but using strong flavours like chocolate helps. Too many times i have tried somebodies spongecake and it's near inedible due to tasting like eating bud. Buttercream topping is a great addition as is orange zest.
However this recipe is based on what I had in the cupboard
Most of my baking is flexible, not all items are necessary. Makes 12 Brownies
200 g dairy-free dark chocolate
170 g self-raising flour
2 heaped table spoons of cocoa powder
175g sugar
200 ml soya milk (or any milk)
Splash of vanilla essence
Cashew nuts (pecans are a great addition)
Sprinkle of seeds and berries (leftover in a snackpack)
A pinch of salt
You can add, marshmallows, orange zest. Anything that you can think of that can help break up the flavour and make it palatable.
Sieve the flour and cocoa into a large mixing bowl. Add the sugar and anything else you want to add, I added chopped cashew nuts, some seeds and berries. Add a pinch of salt then mix.
Melt your chocolate and preheat your oven to 180ºC/350ºF.
Melt your cannabutter and add to the dry mix, add in a few splashes of vanilla essence as well as your milk. Then mix in the melted chocolate.
Pour your mixture into a greased baking tray (or use greaseproof paper) and put in the oven for 20/25mins until it's cooked on the outside and gooey on the inside.
I didn't have a great tray to use but i had these cupcake/muffin trays. Looks like I'm making muffin brownies. Mmmmmmm
Maybe left in a minute or 2 long, just in time to get these out.
And there you go, a lovely vegan cannabrownie muffin! A great way to spend your holiday season.
Disclaimer It is up to you to be responsible for your own health. While eating cannabis it is a lot easier to overdose compared to smoking, and even though this isn't fatal it can be an unpleasant experience. When smoking if you have too much you will be sick or Green Out, yet with edibles it can take over an hour for you to feel the full effects. You have to wait for your body to digest it which results in a longer gaining high that comes in waves. If you have too much it can lead to mild hallucinations and then you will most likely throw up. Try smaller amounts and go from there, remembering how long it has been between your brownies.
