Hey steemians, today I decided to practice my Christmas roast dinner, don't judge, it's not too early. I want Christmas to be special and perfect so I practice, I still have bucket loads of dried mushrooms, so alls good. I will show how to make the roast lentil with wild mushrooms, the wild mushroom sauce and perfect roast potatoes.
OK to start of we need 100g dried mushrooms, half will be for the roast and the other half for the sauce.
Add 1l water.
Let that simmer for 20 minutes, in the mean time peal some potatoes.
Cut them in quarters except for 1, which will be for the roast lentil, Par boil the potatoes. Add salt.
Then get the lentils on the go and add some salt.
So the trick to awesome roast potatoes is flour, throw some flour in a bowl with salt and pepper and dunk in the potatoes.
Place them on a baking tray with some spray cook, keep them in the bottom of the oven until the roast is ready.
Once the mushrooms are cooked pull them out and chop them up keeping half for the sauce and half for the roast.
To start the roast you need onion and garlic.
Start by frying the mushrooms, once golden brown add the onions.
Mix and add the garlic.
Throw in some water and add a few sprinkles of gravy granules.
Few turns of pepper.
Some smoked paprika.
A pinch of basil.
Throw the saved potato in the food processor.
Throw your sause in the food processor, get about 500g of cooked lentil.
Chuck it in the food processor and process.
Get yourself a loaf tray and line it with wax paper.
Then pour in the lentil mixture.
Place the lentil at the top of the oven and potatoes at the bottom of the oven. Then make the BBQ basting, squirt in some ketchup in a bowl.
A tiny squirt of liquid smoke.
Then a bit of soy sause.
Then mix with your fancy cooking paint brush.
Once the roast has been cooking for an hour, paint it with your fancy cooking paint brush.
While that is cooking make the wild mushroom, you need onions and garlic.
Fry onions.
Add garlic.
Throw in the mushrooms.
Add 100ml water and gravy granules and simmer, then mix 200ml plant based milk with three heeded teaspoons plain flour, it is best to start mixing it little by little to reduce lumps.
Then pull out the roast out of the oven.
Then remove the paper and bast it all over with your fancy cooking paint brush and place it in the oven again. The potatoes take about an hour to cook and the roast about 2 hours, so there is a way to make it so it is ready at the same time, if you wait with the potatoes when cooking the roast.
Then it is just a matter of cooking up some vegetables and there you have it a Sunday roast or Christmas Dinner, which is a winner.
