I heard about an experiment where people were giving away free samples of milk. The people testing it said that the milk was good, until they were told that they were drinking 'dog milk' or 'cat milk' or 'mouse milk'. Why does it seem normal, acceptable and even expectable to drink milk from a cow, but from any other animal we get disgusted and even nauseated. Is it that we have been conditioned that cow's milk is good and everything else is bad. Why would this be?
Why do we think eating cow tissue is healthy and necessary, but the thought of eating flesh of a elephant or horse is totally unacceptable. Could it be that we have been the recipients of billion dollar advertising campaigns?
Then you have the activist that are fighting against animal testing on rabbits or mice, but then they have no problem wearing leather shoes or eating a big juicy hamburger.
Have you ever thought about how it must be for a cow that is tied up with hundreds of other cows, waiting and watching as they see their friends tortured and then having the life totally drained, while they stand quietly waiting their turn. How barbaric! The stress hormones must be running freely in the onlooking cattle that are forced to watch their friends breathe their last breadth. How utterly inhumane.
Why do we do this? Is it really just about what our taste buds have been taught to crave?
It's never too late to turn over a new leaf and decide to be proactive in making this planet a better place to live for all life.
