so right you are. I mean, I too grew up, of course decades back with no awareness what so ever about all this. It is nice that there is a day for everything but as you said, it is more about youngster's infatuation rather than deep love which may be rare.
it coincided with Shivrathri, so I guess majority of the Indian population would have gone to temple :)
