A Waterfall Hike We Didn’t Expect
When we saw the excursion list, the nearby waterfalls immediately caught our eye. A hike, natural slides, swimming in the river—it sounded perfect for the family. I went into it thinking it would be a light trek.
I was wrong.
We climbed more than 400 feet in elevation before we even began the real experience: heading downstream through a series of waterfall slides carved naturally into the rock. The water was crisp, refreshing, and just cold enough to energize but not shock.
And then came the big moment—a long jump into a deep pool below. It was one of those experiences where your heart races for a second, and then the rush of landing in cool water makes it all worth it.
We were soaked from head to toe, but the weather was perfect, keeping the entire journey both comfortable and exhilarating.
Surprise Adventure: Buggy Ride Through the Area
Just when the family thought the day’s thrills were behind us, I had another surprise lined up:
a buggy tour through the local trails, rivers, and countryside.
The bumpier, muddier, and splashier it got, the more everyone laughed. It was a fun contrast to the waterfall hike—less physical, more adrenaline-driven—and a great way to see the landscape up close.
A Taste of the Local Flavor
After the buggy ride, we made it back to the pier with just enough time to grab some local Dominican food, which was the perfect ending to the day. There’s something special about experiencing a place not just through its sights and activities, but through its flavors.
Back to the Ship, Onward to the Next Stop
With full stomachs and exhausted smiles, we boarded the ship again, ready to set sail for the next destination on our Thanksgiving adventure. Puerto Plata delivered an incredible mix of nature, culture, and excitement—and it set the tone for the rest of the trip.
