Developers? Time To Work Your A** Off! We Doubled Up Your Rewards!

in #utopian-io7 years ago (edited)

In Utopian.io we believe development contributions are probably the most fundamental ones, unluckily this category is one of the less used. The reasons are:

  • Developers do not like to write about their work. In Utopian we promise we will automate the process almost completely.
  • Rewards were low. We just doubled them up.

Doubled Up The Reward Pool For Development Category

We have just changed the reward pool reserved to the development category and double it up. In order to do this we had to reduce the rewards from other categories, mainly the translations category.

The reason why we opted to remove a portion of the reward pool from the translations category is because Utopian is now being inundated by contributions in this category. This is very cool, but at the same time translations are eating most of the reward pool.

This is a temporary change. Will get back to normal once:

  • Rules in the translations category will be enhanced. Proposals for new enhancements will come in this BIWEEKLY January 5, 4 PM CET.
  • More contributions will be coming in the development category.

Developers Time To Work Your A** Off

Start contributing to the development of Open Source projects right away and get high rewards from Utopian. Want some suggestions?

Lets use this opportunity to grow your wallet and the Steem ecosystem, especially now that the Steem value is flying!

Did we convince you? Now time to work!

As a fellow developer, I really love what Utopian does and believe I will start contributing shortly.

I have a few questions though. The first one being, what types of open source projects can you get rewarded for? Is it only ones Utopian has accepted as valid projects, or can any open source project on Github be contributed to via Utopian (I just imagine some no-name Github projects would not get any rewards though)?

If any open source public project on Github is a valid project to contribute to, then my next question is, will the Utopian bots upvotes only work for specific projects (despite the network not caring), or does the bot prioritize certain projects over others?

My specific scenario is that I am undergoing a year long research project in blockchain technology. Through this, I will be starting a project, Seed, which will be open source on Github. I plan to contribute this and blog about it as I go. Technically, this is to my own project, so I would understand why Utopian may not view that as a valid contribution, however my intention with the project is to, assuming the research proves my method is a success, become another open source blockchain technology for video game networking requirements that others could use.

I guess to wrap up my thoughts, my final question is: Is my scenario a valid use-case for Utopian.io, or should my contributions to Utopian be ones of benefiting existing open source projects?

Every project hosted on Github

We don't prioritise. Just contribute to the open source projects you wish

Absolutely valid

Awesome! Thank you for the info. This year just got even more exciting!

That is what I'm talking about - thank you @elear!!

Automating this process is a great idea!

I think this is a great way to get more people to contribute to the development category, but does this mean that this will go back to normal on January 5, 4 PM CET (less than a day from now) or am I misunderstanding the post?

Nope @amosbastian. We will just discuss enhancements during the BIWEEKLY. The increased rewards for developers will stay there for some time.

That's great news!

I guess you could say the demand for developers is STEEMing up !!

Damn, good times (-:

Awryt! Devs here we come!

Thank God Utopian.io did this! I always looked at the development category and thought "these are not nearly enough rewards." Hopefully this will attract more talent to open-source projects, especially since I am attempting to lead one.

For all my open-source steem developers, I have a very important question I need answered. I am working on a steem application which I believe could be major for the Steem community called @Slangtionary. Do you believe Ruby on Rails is a sound web framework for development on steem right now or is it better to use a different language entirely. I know @inertia is developing radiator(https://github.com/inertia186/radiator), but do most developers have interest developing in Ruby/Ruby on Rails? I really need your input so the project can begin development. Feel free to leave your input below or message me on Steemit.chat

Any response is appreciated, we really want to begin development.

I think it's time for me to vote @utopian-io as Witness!! Big thank you to everyone who works on and sponsors Utopian 👊

Honestly so excited about this platform you are creating. Can't wait to work on more projects! 💻 + ☕️ = 🚀

Keep up the good work!

I have few ideas that I want to start here. I am not a developer and not much friendly with github environment.

So can you please tell how to announce my project ??
How to accept contribution ??

Pls give me detailed tutorial for starting my project.

Do you have your own project hosted on github? @vikasjaat
Join us on Discord for any question https://discord.gg/Pc8HG9x

I already joined utopian on discord.

I will host it on github as soon s possible. @elear you have to support me on every stage.

I would love to contribute. Can someone please provide me some links to get started on Utopian IO in the dev category?

@cutemachine join us on Discord https://discord.gg/Pc8HG9x and/or read the utopian.io/rules

https://utopian.io Click on contribution. Select the category(development). Then, Proceed

I'm not a developer...yet. But I hope more come on board or like me want to be one in the future. Glad I came to steemit!

Great to hear @spiketimmons! I wish you good fortunes and "no bugs" on your road to become a developer.

I just made my academic tool opensource and submitted to the development 3 days ago.... now you double the reward.........

Oh hopefully that is not the only thing you are going to opensource!

Ahaha, sure, I am joking. I make it open source to help others build their own experiment based on our proposal and reference our paper :)
I would like to say thank you for you invent utopian, also my supervisor will thank you. Because he asked me to make our work open source many times, but I always delay it... Your utopian motivates me put our work in github:)

Too bad that i have posted so many contributions already.. but i can work my a** off to write some more.. ;).. resteeming this so that others can get some motivation too..

Very nice. I will have to add some development contributions to my posts. I've been doing mostly video tutorials, but I also do, do opensource contributions.

This is great news. I plan to be making regular contributions to utopian in the coming year, and it's good to know those dev contributions will be well-compensated.

This is the real thing about steemit, this involves real work @utopian-io

it is really bad ,now, but utopian can more in the future

So forgive my oversimplification but this is basically the Steemit version of Github? You get paid to post projects?

That's pretty cool!

I've been wanting to spend some time learning to code. As a new coder I think this is a great idea. Get paid to learn how to code and submit your projects.. like mindblowingly good.

Yes, but even if you're not a developer you can still contribute via graphic design, translations, tutorials, ect. I don't know how to code, but I contribute tutorials or suggestions for open source projects I use sometimes. :-)
