How much is the hardware?

Vaping is growing from a year to year which makes the hardware less and more expensive. What is meant by that? There is loads of hardware from different manufacturers that can be very cheap with a lower end chipsets and lower quality, on the other hand, the same company can provide the user with a better, more expensive mod that will stand out a lot from the cheaper device in terms of material quality, more advanced chipset and better safety.

Do I need to spend loads of cash on my setup?

No, unless you don't know what to do with your hard earn money! Get yourself a well known setup that is used by mass and don't cost a fortune! There is couple of good quality mods for around £ 45- £ 55 price mark which is equal to 5-7 packets of cigarettes here in the UK. When you’ll be happy with vaping it will be hard to don’t buy more – trust me.
Atomizers mainly called tanks are a bit strange, as you may not like what other likes, so it is a good idea to watch some reviews and decide which atomizer will suit you the most. Let me explain some naming for you:

RTA – Rebuildable Tank Atomizer – this it the one where you have to build your own coil and wick it with a little bit of cotton. Coils is on the bottom, where reservoir is on the top.
RDA – Rebuildable Dripping Atomizer – this “atomizer” don’t have a reservoir for liquid at all. You have to build your own coil, wick it and drip some juice on it every couple hits.
RDTA – Rebuildable Dripping Tank Atomizer – this one can be a little confusing as the coils are at the top and the liquid reservoir is mostly at the bottom, so the coils sits on the top of the reservoir and wicks are going down flowing the liquid to the coil. (There are some tanks that have coils at the bottom, but due to its specific liquid control they are called RDTA’s – such as Aromamizer Supreme RDTA)

Which option is better – Standard atomizers or atomizers with DIY.

It really depends what you after, in standard atomizers that takes a pre-made coils such as Aspire Cleito or well known SMOK TFV8 (or other TFV) you will spend more money, as coils pricing, especially for those atomizers that produce a massive vapour is quite expensive. Great way to save some cash is doing coils by yourself, although you will need very minimum DIY skills and a bit of practice. Let’s take my Berserker MTL RTA from Vandy Vape as an example and break it down a little bit.

Wire: 10 meters standard Kanthal A1 28g = £ 3

Cotton: Good quality Cotton Bacon = £ 3.50

Personally, I’m changing my coil every week, due to hard use and this should last me more than 6 months.

JUICE!

You need something to be vaporised! E-liquid is a very personal choice as you may like but I don’t so I will not touch that question, but I will explain the strengths! Most common nicotine strengths are:
0mg – No nicotine in your juice.
3mg – Lowest option, used mainly by vapers that are producing massive cloud.
6mg – Just like above, mainly used in tanks that are designed to be straight to lung hits.
12mg – For vapers that want to have the closest experience to standard cigarettes.
18mg – Same as above, the highest strength available in the UK and most European countries due to TDP regulations.

Okay, but how much it will cost to get me started?!

There is no answer for that, you can buy the most expensive hardware if you want, but I would start with something a bit cheaper but well known and recommended by many people. Obviously you don’t want to go with the cheapest option as you won’t get the best vaping experience, that will keep you off the “stinkys”.

Let’s break it down a little bit what you need to start vaping properly. (I won’t list everything available as there is too much, if you are seriously interested I would suggest doing some more research on vaping sites or youtubes and see what you like.)

For people that would like to have the closest experience of vaping to standard cigarettes:

Aspire Zelos kit: £40 - £ 45 + Juice

DIY:

Voopoo Drag: £45
VandyVape Bersker MTL RTA: £30

For people that want to produce massive clouds and great flavour:

Voopoo Drag: £45
Aspire Cleito 120: £25- £30

  All you need to get you started is a good piece of hardware + some juice. This shouldn’t cost more than couple packets of cigarettes and who knows, maybe you’ll like it!
