Moderator Application for Utopian.io

Hello. I was born and raised in Venezuela in a high-tech environment, as both of my parents had a master’s degree in systems engineering. During my whole lifespan I’ve been exposed to how society had to adapt to a mindset change after the introduction of the internet, and to how rushed this process was. A whole new means of communication was developing and the way businesses were done had to awkwardly try and go along with it. The traditional “secretive all-mighty” corporation model didn’t cut it anymore.

That’s when I first started getting involved with the open source movement. It was much more ethical and it proved that information was much more powerful when shared. It broke the barrier between the service provider and the customer. It was the future. It is the future. The only drawback to this relationship was the distance between both pairs: The client has access to the service’s inside information, that’s true, but how do you get him to be interested in it?

Finding utopian.io was fascinating because it meant to me the answer to this question. The concept of giving worth to the contribution you make to the open source world was the missing key and I’d like to be a part of this.

I’ve been contributing to various amazing projects in the translations section for about two months now and I’ve learned a lot about how this whole system works. I’ve also noticed it has a few flaws:

• Not every contribution is made with the same passionate mindset. You can tell when someone’s seriously involved in a project and honestly wants it to flourish and when someone’s just trying to fill a 1000 words requirement.
• There’s a non-stop growing stream of contributions made per day, especially in my mother language (Spanish).

One thing I’ve learned is a system recycles its flaws indefinitely until they grow strong enough to crash the whole thing down. And, while I know the moderating team’s been doing a great job at fighting this, I believe I can be of great help to this community. Moreover, it’s my duty to do so. Because what utopian.io is doing for the open source movement is invaluable and I want it to stay that way.

Having said all this, I would like to join the utopian.io’s moderators’ team:
