Ureka.Social: Audible & Desktop Notifications Added - Plus General Notification Optimisations.

in #ureka4 months ago

Hey everyone,

A few new features and improvements are now live at ureka.social.
I recently announced an improved notificatins system on the site. It had a few areas that needed improving, so it now has an extensive caching and multi-tab tracking system to better manage the way notifications appear across different open tabs. No doubt it needs a bit more fine tuning, please let me know your experiences in the comments below.

Even more exciting, we now have both optional audible and OS desktop notifications. As far as I am aware, Ureka is the only Hive site to support these on Desktop machines.

There are a variety of sounds to choose from and each type of notification has a default sound assigned. By default, all these notifications are disabled.
To activate them, visit the notifications settings page (via the cog icon in the notifications popup) and you can then configure them as you prefer.

Desktop notifications will appear on Windows, Mac & Linux systems (in general). You should see useful info/icons in them and also be able to click them to open the relevant item in ureka.

All feedback is appreciated. Stay tuned for more updates soon!

Wishing you well,
Ura Soul

Glad you have this churning! A few bugs on mobile (Samsung z fold 6)

  1. I am prompted to enable notifications on every visit.
  2. Being authenticated with the keychain mobile app, I am correctly directed to it when I vote but not when I comment. I opened it manually and approved the comment. Ureka said comment approved and then said it failed. Refresh showed that it went through ok.

Thanks for the feedback, I'll look into that now. 👍

Which browser are you using? I've been testing in Firefox on Samsung and it's mostly fine there.

Brave Browser - based on Chrome. I opened this page from my brave browser on desktop just now and allowed notifications. I bet they'll keep now because I was prompted to sign the transaction. I was not in the mobile app, and when I manually opened up the keychain app it did not prompt me to sign the transaction like it did when I did that for a comment.

This should be fixed now - keychain should come into focus to enable the posting authority to be approved :)

I can tweak all the notifications and it claims to save them. I am not being directed to approve any use of my posting key. I opted in from my desktop. Is there an undo approval action in the app?

Edit: edit is clearing my edit if I'm not fast enough!

Edit again: taking out my keyboard for this one! Comment and edit comment is requiring manually switching to the keychaing app

The PeakD system works by storing a 'notify' message in custom_json onchain that creates an 'account' for the notifications onchain. When you approve the use of notifications, it just writes a custom json that announces to the chain that you are subscribing to notifications. If you have already previously pre-approved posting key operations on desktop then you won't be asked to approve in keychain as you already agreed that in advance.
You can't undo the approval because the one-time message was already written onchain.
The only way I know to test this bug is to try to login with an account that hasn't used peakd notifications before - which I did earlier and saw the issue is resolved.

Oh, what device and browser are you having the edit problem with?

Same one: Samsung z fold 6

Hive Auth / Keychain requires every action on Hive to be authorised seperately unfortunately, yes. You pre-approve them and should only be asked once per action.

Signing on brings up a prompt that opens keychain. Not so for comments. I think there was another action that prompted keychain to open....

The latest:

  1. ureka is not prompting for keychain auth when
    a. I leave a community
    b. I comment (unless you just fixed this - I am commenting here from ecency mobile)
  2. I view my profile and browse my comments. I don't see a facility to open a comment in context.
  3. Feature request: on communities feed it is essential to toggle on and off communities. I just left leofinance because it was swamping all other communities in my feed.

OK, I think I understand - I'll see if I can reproduce. 👍
