We are city farmers and live on 1 acre of land and try to do what we can to raise our own food instead of just mowing the lawn and not getting any benefit from it. Currently I have a small pen of meat chickens that we move about the back lawn until it is time for freezer camp. I also have laying hens with a 8x8 coop that provides eggs for the family and some income to off set the feed and supplies. Rabbits are also part of our plan but only breed during the spring and summer to harvest enough for the freezer and again a few customers that buy some. Other thing that we do to help cut down on to the groceries is growing aquaponicly. This is something that anyone can do to grow food. We have been teaching these methods to people for free to help people be more sustainable and bring back the pride in growing ones own food. Simple food solutions for food deserts.
