Biggest Debate of the Day - Self Upvoting

Seems that there is a bit of a schism occurring on Steemit since the HardFork. Whether or not it is moral, ethical or legal for accounts to upvote their posts and then upvote their comments, regardless of merit.

Those opposed to the concept of self upvoting are talking about creating bots to weed out this practice and some have plans to directly attack those who are doing it, by flagging their posts before payout. They are calling out the self upvoters and trying to publicly shame them into ceasing the activity.

The claim is that they are "stealing" from the payout pool by self upvoting, while rewarding no one but themselves.

There are quite a few people that were attracted to steemit as an investment and feel the practice of self upvoting is a method of getting ROI on the monies they've pumped into steem.

They were also attracted to the decentralized platform that allows a steemian to do what they like, save a few exceptions, like plagiarism and outright theft, without retribution.

So the questions are:

Should accounts be allowed to self upvote both their blog posts and the comments that they make?

Should activist accounts be allowed to flag those that self upvote and publicly shame them for the practice?

Thank you for your upvote @minnowsupport

I think you should be able to upvote your own posts. An upvote helps their visibility and if you have put more money into the system I think that's fair that your posts should start off a bit higher in the charts.

I don't think you should be able to upvote your own comments, and this is where people who self-vote are keeping the money that was meant to be given away for themselves.

If you were to upvote your own comment it takes it to the front of the comments section. Sometimes it is necessary to do if you want visibility for your comment. I agree that you should be able to upvote your own blog post as well.

I disagree you should be able to upvote your comment to make it more visible. I don't think the site benefits from the ability to upvote your own comment. I think we need to take it away and make votes in the comments section natural.

That's fair. I can see it both ways. Appreciate the comments.

i upvpte mine because no one else does. My votes worth a penny but it doesnt mean idont vote on other peoples stuff.

I fear we're all in the same boat on that front. When I get zero votes on a post, I end up upvoting myself too.

I upvoted yours and followed

I do not think self-voting should be regulated at all. I may have read the same article and dude said that the self-voter was making spam comments and then upvoting themselves. I am not against self-voting but I am against spam comments. If you wanna spam comment, make your own blog post and spam yourself and upvote it. Lol.

I agree with you. If we start making rules after the fact, we are going to lose some big investors on this platform. Then all reward pool will be shit and the coin will decrease in value. Spam yourself all day long.

Tough choice. On the one hand here is a decentralized platform and you can do anything. Permitted by the rules of the community. And on the other hand this vote eroded the pool of awards for comments and 10 votes is clearly not enough others=)))

That's true, the 4x vote power seems to have reduced the number of upvotes being passed around. People like to say that makes for better curating, I say you end up only upvoting yourself and your friends. Not enough to go around to strangers.

I hav a whoe different perspective on this. I think too many people on STEEM are pocket watching. I dont care about another mans pocket. No Man chould care about another man's pocket. If that person has their strategy, so be it. Do you. I don't get into details with these things, I'm too busy curating my own damn page, ya know. I mean my goodness...I've never seen people complain about others so much...and really because of the other person ability to accumulate money. Focus on you and watch how quickly your method will work for you.
