This makes a lot of sense. That's essentially what happened with the rooster (he had a gibbled foot and was struggling) Also I was watching a series called 'Live free or die' and there was an episode about a guy hunting a deer and the deer appeared to just freeze and let him take the shot. It was an intense moment to witness. What makes an animal self aware? I've learned that recognizing themselves in a mirror is a factor but I'm wondering what else. I also read somewhere that elephants see humans as 'cute'. Thought that was neat. Thankyou for this post. I also enjoyed reading all the comments too :)

I think you would really enjoy Derek Jensen's book. This fall I had deer, elk and moose walk up to me and present themselves if I wanted them. It was the most moving and spiritually touching experience one can be a part of.
As for the elephants, I never heard that before, but it would not surprise me. lol
Yes I plan to check that book out, thankyou for the recommendation! :) That is incredible, I can't imagine being face to face with elk or moose! :O
It was intimidating as one must be very careful around them. But I think with the right state of mind and spirit, they will show respect. I've never been attacked by them, but I have heard stories. But to have those big beasts present themselves is awe inspiring experience. They will come to you. You do not have to go to them.
By the way, congratulations are in order. Looks like you were invited into @fulltimegeeks Stewards of Gondor as well. Nice! Enjoy the steem and I hope it helps you out tremendously!
No doubt that would intimidate me! Just because it's not a bear doesn't mean they couldn't do as much damage as one if they felt threatened. I believe in that too, a few months back a squirrel followed me up the road and then climbed up a tree and let me approach and pet it. It was awesome! Though I do wonder if maybe he/she was sick since normally they wouldn't allow for that. I've had a few interesting occurrences like this like when I had a hummingbird hover a few inches from my face randomly as I opened my door! That was wild. I wish I knew how to comment photos because I would totally post a picture of the forest spirit from princess mononoke hehe.
Also holy moly!! I feel tremendously blessed!!!!! Thankyou it certainly has motivated me to focus all my extra time here doing what I can to enrich the community, I don't think I'm that great at writing but with time I will get better, neural plasticity and whatnot hehe YAYY!!! :D
