ULOG #6 - Zeke is a Theatre Goer

Well, not really....but last night yes. I live in a small town that is blessed with world-class theater though I am not as much of a buff as other locals and the thousands of people who come from across the globe to this small town every year. Sure I appreciate the talent and dedication that goes into it, the noble pursuit of art, the economic impact it has on this small town. Truth is I would rather be on a golf course, lake, musical stage or a patio than at a play.

Being a local in this town, it is a shame not to attend what people travel thousands of miles to attend and my wife dragged me with the family to The Music Man last night. https://www.stratfordfestival.ca/WhatsOn/PlaysAndEvents/Production/The-Music-Man

Zeke's Unqualified Review

Halfway to the intermission, I was longing for the end of the show. Sometimes, these plays throw me way back and I wonder why anyone would want to graduate and progress and end up just working on a glorified high-school play. DEFINITELY not a nice thing to say as the people are so talented, there is so much that goes into these productions, and people get such joy watching or creating them. BOOO ZEKE!
Well hold on now I am not done. There were fantastic vocal performances, great dancers, and some legitimately great acting. The kids in this were also very good and it warms the heart to see them perform at such a high level at an age where I was riding a BMX and trying not to get beat up at school. The sound was fantastic, lighting was so perfect you didn't even notice it, and the sets and costumes meshed so well it felt like being transported back to before the first world war.
By the end of it, I was still wishing for the end but the numbers and ending really threw chills down my spine and stirred emotion.

Overall review - Very well done and I didn't hate this!

I couldn't inconspicuously do a patented Zeke Walk-in© so here are a few more shots from my iphone 7 to bring you inside the beautiful Festival Theater. Here is a link to discover it and the other theaters in town. https://www.stratfordfestival.ca/Visit/TheatreAndGuides

What is your favourite theater experience? Am I being too harsh on theater? Have you heard of Stratford?

Sort:

Stratford sounds nice!

You should visit some time!

I haven't had an experience with theater. I did perform in plays though during my high school days lol! I also joined a choir for I love singing so going to play or theater would be something I want to experience.

The audience seems to be majority of older ones?

Good thing you did not hate this and still enjoyed it :D Is it something you would be looking forward to?

Yes I was in a play in highschool as well and it was fun. A good friend was also the lead in another play and I loved that. I too was in a choir in some early gradeschool music classes and credit that for the success I have had singing harmony in rock bands.

I would rather be golfing but the family absolutely loved it so that is good enough for me.

Lol @ I didn’t hate it..... I’m going to see Wicked with my daughter on broadway. Believe it or not , being in NYC all my life this is only the 2nd broadway show I will be going to . The first being Chicago .

I hear you. I go once a year probably when my wife forces me. People shake their head because the festival is world renowned and right in my back yard.

The kids enjoying it was enough for me and hopefully yours will remember their trip for a lifetime as well.

Thanks . Luckily for them they have seen more broadway shows than I have. Mostly bc the school takes them on trips to these shows every few years .

One thing we have in common Zeke, we are better participants than we are spectators.

You are probably right.

Part of the joy of spectating comes from having enjoyed performing/playing I suppose.

Agreed.
Have you heard of Hoopfest?
As I have stated before, i love basketball. My favorite sport by far. I have played in hoopfest about 10 times and loved every game. I have a daughter playing in hoopfest this year, so we will go watch, but it is painful for me because I still want to play. lol

Yes I recall a couple posts of yours where you were headed out to shoot some hoops in the hood. Keep playin!

If I died playing basketball, I would die happy.
