Zinnia's can withstand hot summer temperatures, and are easy to grow from seeds. They are grown in fertile, humus-rich, and well-drained soil, in an area with full sun. They will reseed themselves each year.
Zinnia is a genus of plants of the sunflower tribe within the daisy family. They are native to scrub and dry grassland in an area stretching from the Southwestern United States to South America. Members of the genus are notable for their solitary long-stemmed flowers that come in a variety of bright colors.

This was the zinnia year here on our homestead. They apparently LOVED the heat and rain, unusual for us here.
