The work week's over, you've done your chores, and it's time to get excited and hyped for the days off where you focus on that which feels good to you! Verb T and Pitch 92 join forces to create the sounds you need to prime your mind for bursting from that daily monotony in their new album; Good Evening.
From the fast paced bangers to the steady-paced cruisers to the slow 'watch-of-a-hypnotist' waves, every song is overflowing with energy. The beginning of each track is the definition of engaging, with the intros having the scene set and 100 percent of your attention by the fifth bar. While half your body bobs unintentionally to Verb T's clockwork flow, your mind is awoken yet soothed by the funky, jazzy beats of Pitch 92.
The message and feel goes to a different place with each track. Focussing on one core topic and poetically orbiting it like the ideas of a spider-diagram, Good Evening is an exploration of moods and mind-states, that is careful not to go into too much detail about how one gets there, so anyone can relate to the variety of feelings delivered. From 'Possession' to 'That Sound' the variety of topics is riddled with core principles we can all grasp. As if to remove significance from the circumstances of one's past, every topic is very much in the now, and encourages you to appreciate what's good, endure what's hard, and keep yourself orientated towards what's coming. This is of course very much summarised in 'Many Miles' towards the end of the album, where we take a moment to look back and admire where we've travelled. Followed appropriately by 'Good Evening' where we take a moment to sit back and enjoy a well-earned wind-down.
Pitch 92's production is clean cut and structured to a mechanical standard. Each element stands on their own, harmonising with each other without blurring into one another's space. Unlike the more dusty and chaotic collections of jazz samples frosted with vinyl crackle that we're used to in hip hop, Pitch has stems sounding freshly cut and purpose packaged for the beat it goes in. Creating something rather new in this scene by going for a more clean aesthetic. Who said the underground room can't have some cladding? The instrumentals invoke a feeling of being awake and attentive to the message of Verb T and those featuring, with a steady, forward moving pace in the flow, adapting a variety of themes.
Good Evening is a versatile collection - enjoy it all as one, or pick and mix with the various tracks that each stand well on their own. There are few moments in daily life that one of these tunes won't fit - an ideal balance between abstract and precise, they stay open to interpretation without being to hazy about their core message. So whether you need some atmosphere add to your after work chill, or a auditory wake-up buzz on your drive into work on a freezing Monday morning, this album has everything you need to get your mind tuned to any state of choice. Fetch a copy of this disc of innovation on the 17th of October 2017 from High Focus Records!
