My Etherwallet

in #tutorial7 years ago (edited)

I have this friend who is one of the successful Steemians in this platform. Before he got into Steemit, cryptocurrencies was like a fairytail to him. The funny thing that I want to tell you guys about him is that, despite of him earning considerate amount of money in the platform he still kind of fears investing into cryptocurrencies, instead he opened up a bank account and deposited some money.

The amount he deposited wasn't much either so I told him that money should be enough as a hedge fund. Depositing more money in a worthless bank account or any bank is stupid as hell. I don't want to offend him in anyway, all I want is for him to be successful and get out from his situation which is very common to the people in our country like dealing with monthly electric bills and water bills which is really way below me, these things are problems that you should look at just some kind of natural events like pooping or peeing.

So we had a short discussion about investing and stuff like real state, traditional businesses, which if you think of is, it is not as good as cryptocurrencies by this moment. Cryptocurrencies not only gives you the chance of being a total rich individual over a short period of time but , it also gives you the freedom to choose of who you are and takes less of your time. Of course there are emotional things around cryptocurrencies like fear and greed, but would you rather deal with being a mason or a janitor rather than just dealing with these emotions?

So let's move on from the short debate out there, that debate was really productive and healthy in everyway so everyone should be happy.

So for his sake, I made this post on how to make a myetherwallet which is one of the easiest and most versatile wallet over the planet(maybe I'm getting a little exaggerated here). My Etherwallet is a good wallet since you can store lots of good potential investments like Omisego, Tenx, Ethos, Powerledger and so on...And on the top of that my etherwallet is really easy to understand.

First thing to do is go to this website:

https://www.myetherwallet.com/

A pop up message will appear once you enter, just click outside that window to remove the message.

A window like this will appear. Anyway, before you generate any wallet, please do make sure that the pc that you are using is safe. A totally new or reformatted pc will be always be the safest.

Decide for a password, or maybe you can decide to forget the password.

Then the website will tell you to download the Json file. Download it and store it somewhere, or you can just decide to delete it.

Click I understand and continue. Now this is the important part, take a photo of the private key, print it, or write it down in a piece of paper. You can afford to lose the Json file but not this one. This code will be your last resort if you forgot your password.

To summarize it all here, you can access your generated wallet with the Json file along with the password or just the private keys. The written down private keys with some hidden letters will be the safest and secured bet. Another good idea is to print the keys and part them into multiple parts, like 3-4 pieces and then put them into different locations.

I don't know how to use Trezor, metamask and those other wallets but with just the private keys, you're already good.

For this one I will be using the private keys. Enter the keys then enter.

Once you enter in the codes you will then have access on the contents of the generated wallet. As you can see here, the newly generated wallet has no contents yet. To fill it up, use the address. Try sending a little at first to make yourself confident with it.

That is all for this post, if you find it useful, please do upvote and give a comment. I will appreciate it.
