Hey all today I wanted to present you a website that I have recently found out that existed.
It is created by @ura-soul one of the better witnesses IMO in steemit.
SteemOcean.com is an awesome tool to give you an idea who are the big fishes in Steemit and what are they actually doing...
Here is a screenshot of the Home Page :
I guess you got the idea already. It is about leaderboards of accounts. Like who has the biggest vote , who voted for most accounts who self votes and how much ... etc etc ...
I am not sure should I give you some analysis on those leaderboards as at the begining of that post it was my intention but to be fair everyone with a little brain in his head can figure out what is really happening and who are the guys constantly abusing the system while pretending to be adding value of sorts...
Anyways since this is a presentation of the tool lets jump onto another page of this lovely website which caught my attention :
I really think that this page is great tool to check out what Witnesses are doing (and their steemit accounts). Here you can again see for who they are voting and the percentage of self votes.
This tool can give you also a good idea if a witness is engaged with the community or not...
Another awesome tool is the ability to explore each account separately ( called Examine a Voter) as shown below :
In this case I examined the @poetsunit account because it has made quite a lot of upvotes and was curious actually to check it out myself.
Awesome statistics you can see there also with a total rank score and top cathegory. This tool can give you good idea what is an account all about and what real value it gives to the blockchain...
Well I think if you liked the wesite you can explore it further and investigate for yourself the depths of the ocean :) Be Brave !!!
So that was all from me :)
Thanks for your review - Resteemed!
I am working on some interesting new data/pages for steemocean at the moment, stay tuned. :)
I'm excited to see this information publicly available and accessible to everyone! It's healthy for the community to see things like, the account with the highest reputation is also the most selfish. Good to know.
But...
The thing that has been worrying me for awhile is "freedom of thought", "guilt by association" and "data mining" related.
Data mining is going to happen and I'm just going to have to live with it. Ok I accept that IF, its just my contributions, i.e. posts, comments, votes, etc., the information that I gave willingly.
But what about my consumption habits?
Example: On ThemTube (which I try not to use anymore) I liked to give the "Flat Earth, 100% proof!" videos a watch. I believe the Earth is round but if your 100% sure it's not then maybe you have some important information I should know about.
But I don't want to be labeled or categorized as a "Flat Earther".
Change the above scenario to "Democrat", "Republican", "Porn Addict" or whatever the hated group is today.
Example of how this can affect daily life: Just knowing that my "Smart Phone" can eavesdrop on me stifles conversation, even talking to myself, alone in my car, I worry about what I say because of that fear (knowledge) .
If steem is to really be a platform of free uncensored and uncensorable information then I need to feel safe, free to view any content without judgement, especially the content that others might strongly disagree with, disagree with to the point of killing me.
Stopping someone from accessing information by fear of retribution is still censorship.
Greetings! On a public website it is always the case that your information can be data mined. To my knowledge all public data on other social networks is thoroughly mined by numerous professional companies and sold on. I have stated since I launched my own social network many years ago that if you don't want something to be known by everyone then don't post it on the internet, period.
If someone wants to judge others and put them in their own limiting boxes, then they will do that based on their own thinking and no amount of controlling them is going to be the right solution. Balance needs to come from the heart and so we need to co-create society that doesn't allow others to have control over us and a result of that process will be that many other challenges will be resolved. There is not really a shortcut to living real balance, all issues must be addressed at source. So the only soulution is to first heal self and understand the issues involved deeply enough to then be able to help others.
For me, Steem and its transparency represents a playground and laboratory for showing and learning how to have real balance in society (though it is not a perfect one). The greater our own alignment to truth and correct logic about life and ourselves, in general, that greater our ability will be to effect the called for changes - so I do that without much concern for being data mined. I see this and similar systems as a tool for effecting the kind of change that is needed to remove threats from data mining in the long term and in the short term it is tough to avoid those threats without removing self from public discussions.
Awesome :) By the way this is awesome work and it is exciting to know there are such tools ... I am sure this type of websites will be able to show more to the regular users... cause This is the biggest problem of Steemit it is transparent but no one really knows how to look at it :) Especially the regular user which makes it really hard for mass adoption IMO ...
At some point the interfaces for Steem websites will probably be a lot simpler, but for now, yes - we need to expose the data in useful ways and in ways that promote change for the better, so that's my intent with Steem Ocean.
Yes, Steemocean.com is a great tool to explore accounts and big whales on what they are doing. @ura-soul is a great witness to go with!!!
