10 Ways to reduce PLASTIC!

in #truth8 years ago

Please repost this and lets get this message out! Let's face it. Since corporate responsibility and environmental hazards mean very little to most corporations, change isn't going to occur until each consumer makes an individual change and votes with their wallet or until more legislation is passed that bans corporations from plastic bags and other plastic uses. Below are 10 ways to reduce your plastic use today! Because yes this is an urgent matter.

  1. Stop using plastic straws, even in restaurants (500 million plastic straws are used every single day in America). Just remember to ask your waiter for no straw while ordering. If a straw is a must, purchase a reusable stainless steel or glass straw.

  2. Use a reusable produce bag as well as reusable grocery bags. Purchase or make your own reusable produce bag and be sure to wash them often.

  3. Give up gum. Gum is made of a synthetic rubber, aka plastic.

  4. Use bar soap free of wrapping or, soaps/scrubs in environmentally friendly/paper packaging.

  5. Buy boxes instead of bottles. Often, products like laundry detergent come in cardboard which is more easily recycled than plastic.

  6. Purchase food from bulk bins whenever possible and fill a reusable bag or container. You save money and unnecessary packaging.

7.Use a reusable bottle or mug for your water and beverages, even when ordering to-go! Most times they will fill your bottle for you instead of plastic!

  1. Bring your own container for take-out or your restaurant doggy-bag since many restaurants use styrofoam.

  2. Don't use plasticware at home and be sure to request restaurants do not pack them in your take-out box.

  3. Pack your lunch especially the contents inside in reusable containers and bags. Also, opt for fresh fruits and veggies and bulk items.
