Thanks for replying,
I think the Amish would have to deviate from their principles of non-violence. But they're in a much better position than almost anyone else because they have the tools and the skills for long-term survival in a low-tech world.
The problem with trying to survive on your own in a country hideout is a lack of resources that would be a problem in the long term. Community is key.
A large underground storage tank is immobile. It could work for a community that operated one or more of those vehicles for supply runs or something. But for a family it would not be as useful as one might think. A single family is not capable of defending itself against much of anything and the point of having the vehicle would be to get out of the city as quickly and as far as possible. You could fill large canisters from the tank and take them with you for the trip to the country hideout. You'd do that as soon as possible after the crisis began, in which case having a large hidden fuel storage would be pointless. You could keep all the fuel that would fit in the vehicle in barrels or in a tank inside a separate storage building.
Howdy again sir markkujantunen! I so agree about the Amish, I've done quite a bit of research on them since I lived close to their communities in 2 states, I've done several posts about them too because of their self sufficiency and my admiration for their independence.
I also agree about the storage tanks. The ones I was referring to are the ones at the country retreats, compounds and bunkers. They're thick in West Central Texas because all the millionaires are building them out there for when things collapse.
Are you a prepper?
Building a fuel storage tank may be a sensible thing to do because there are many kinds of situations in which it could be needed short of a total collapse of civilization.
I'm not a prepper. It's much less of a thing here (Finland), possibly because we don't have the kind of extreme weather events relatively common in Texas and much of the US Midwest.
Howdy today sir markkujantunen! I hope Finland never has need of prepping. Most preppers here believe that a total collapse of society is coming either from nuclear or EMP attacks or triggered by a financial collapse.
I know the business of building lavish bunkers and hardened homes and shelters is exploding in growth all over the States. Hopefully we'll never need them but who knows. Thanks so much for your great comments!
