I was listening to a podcast recently and the guest on the show was talking about pivoting as a way to overcome difficulties and "plateaus" in any given field, hobby or activity.
I loved the idea so much that I've been putting it into practice ever since, I have to say that it truly works and it's a great way to get out of your current "rut" and think about problems in a new light.
It's really simple too.. Say you're looking at dieting and fitness. If you've been trying to lose weight, but haven't quite been able to get below your current mark, then maybe you should just pivot and take a different approach.
What would this pivot look like? For dieting I would say that a good pivot would be to lower your caloric intake (if you haven't been doing so)... or if you have been doing so, then maybe you should up your workouts and workout for longer/do more cardio.
Or say that you've done both of those and you're looking for another direction to pivot, then maybe a good direction would be to switch to an entirely new eating regime like the Caveman diet, Atkins or any other variety of healthy diets that offer a different approach.
Some people simply don't process calories the same way as others and it can often be hard for certain people to lose stubborn body fat.. A great way to combat this difficulty is to just approach the problem in a new way and try an entirely different approach to weight loss.
If you want another example, take finances. Let's say you've wanted to save money and invest in your financial freedom, but you just don't seem to be making any headway...
Well, pivot what you're doing. Maybe you've been trying to save $1,000 a month when you should really change from trying to do monthly investment chunks and you should invest $100 out of each paycheck instead.
Or maybe money is too tight and saving doesn't cut it. Maybe you should pivot in the direction of trying to earn more money by picking up a freelancing gig or getting a 2nd job or etc etc options to make money on the side.
This pivoting strategy really allows the user to approach a problem with a different outlook... The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result, so maybe the key is to just do the opposite of what you've been trying!
What do you want to pivot on?
