The latest data revealed by Wells Fargo and Agora Financial suggests that the global sales for e-cigarettes is likely to reach $10 billion by the end of 2017, the figure was just $20 million in 2008. This huge increase in sales value in last 10 years strongly supports the fact that people are accepting the concept of e-cigarettes.

An e-cigarette is essentially a handheld electronic device that creates an aerosol (commonly called vapor) by heating a liquid. The user then inhales the aerosol. Using e-cigarettes is also termed vaping. The liquid in the e-cigarette, called e-liquid is usually composed of nicotine, propylene glycol, glycerin, and flavorings. However, not all e-liquids contain nicotine.

The modern e-cigarette was first invented by Chinese pharmacist Hon Lik in 2003 and most recently e-cigarettes are made in China. Since they were first sold in 2004 their global use has mounted exponentially. US and UK are the biggest consumer markets, and a significant proportion of schoolchildren use them as they are attributed to be safer than traditional cigarettes.
Commonly reported reasons for using e-cigarettes are comprised of;

*Trying to quit smoking
*Reduce risk
*Save money
*Many use them for fun

By August 2016, the US FDA extended its regulatory authority to include e-cigarettes. There are around 500 brands of e-cigarette fighting to claim their ever increasing market share.
