The popularity of hanok guest houses continues. Usually gathered around old city towns. These traditional Korean houses are favored not only by foreign tourists but also local travellers. Korean young people find it ‘exotic’ to stay in hanok guest houses, while older generations want to feel a long-forgotten atmosphere of hanok. Those hanoks which have survived the destructions of the Korean War (1950-53) and the following decades of unexceptional housing development, are mostly converted into restaurants, cafes, galleries, and guesthouses, all enjoying rising popularity.
