Live Oak and Spanish Moss for Tree Tuesday

in #treetuesday7 years ago (edited)

This past March, we visited my brother in Hilton Head, South Carolina. I was completely in awe of the live oaks and Spanish moss!!! We live in the Midwest area of the USA, so these lovely trees were one of my favorite things when we were sightseeing. Palms and live Oaks are everywhere in Hilton Head. My daughters even pointed out that they were in the parking lots at common places like McDonald's and Wal-Mart ;)

This photo, however, was taken at Bonaventure Cemetery in Savannah, Georgia which was just a short drive from the island. We were warned by locals that although the Spanish moss is beautiful, it is wise to only look and not touch!!! The beauty of the trees and moss definitely contributed to the quality of our sight-seeing!

You can read more about live oaks here if you're interested

Thanks for checking it out!

That's awesome! I'm originally from Louisiana and we had it everywhere. It was actually illegal to remove it from the trees for personal use.

I can believe that! Not only are they pleasing to the eye, it sounds like they serve many important purposes to local wildlife.

That's one incredible picture! Looks a bit eerie, yet quite beautiful.

Thanks for the compliment @drakos! Eerie and beautiful... one of my favorite combos! I've always loved cemeteries since I was young for some reason.

Your write up is impressive. Followed @melodyrussell

Thank you for taking the time to look, follow and comment @spormania! :)

That's a really good photo!
So, is tree Tuesday a thing?

Thanks @amberyooper! Yes, #treetuesday is a weekly theme, just like the color challenges, etc. I can't remember them all, but I know about #monochromemonday, #treetuesday, #beachwednesday, #sunthursday and #lovefriday. I know I saw a list of other themes and challenges somewhere but I can't recall. I should have resteemed it to use as a reference!!!

That's pretty cool! I'll have to remember that.
I could do treetuesday and beachwednesday.

I really enjoy the challenges and prompts on here because it gets my wheels turning and makes me dig for photos that apply to each one. I'll try my best to remember where I came across the list of challenges and I'll resteem if I have any luck!

Oh wow, that looks incredible! I love it when trees are completely covered in mosses or lichens; it just looks so cool. Thanks for sharing this with us!

Thanks @valth! I was so impressed with the natural beauty on the eastern coast of the USA, and I can't wait to explore more. We have several different varieties of moss and lichens here in Missouri, so I will try to share more of my local scenery. Following you to see what you have to share from Norway!! :)

this looks like it should be the cover of a novel!! very awesome
