TreeTuesday today and isn't it lucky that the Kousa dogwoods are at their peak?!!! I have 2 in my front yard; they flank the front walkway (walkway is behind lined with pachysandra).
THe one above is in the yard and its pointy petals are like stars. Here is a close-up...
THe other dogwood (below) is also a kousa, but it's petals are rounded.
It is planted in the foundation bed. I tried to take a photo of the tree from the yard, but it is so big, that the view from out the window will have to suffice!
I love these trees.
I also have another dogwood in my back shaded garden. It is called a Rutgers Hybrid Dogwood. It was created (by Rutgers Univ) by crossing American Dogwood with Kousa. It bloomed about a month ago (like the American Dogwoods) and has the lovliest pink flowers. It also has very airy branching which is typical of an American Dogwood. I'm so mad at my self for not taking a close-up this year, and frankly, the pic below does not do it justice.

If anyone at all is paying attention, the yellow hachinachloa seen at the foot of the tree along with the reddish heuchera and all the diff hostas can also be seen in my blog profile pic ;0) THe hachinachloa has gotten enormous. Time to divide it and spread the wealth.
HOpe you all enjoyed reading about the different Dogwood trees. And if you live in growing zone 6, drive about and you will see the Kousa's in full glorious bloom EVERYWHERE!

I was going to comment on how glorious your heuchera was and also how excited I get when my MIL divides her hostas and heuchera as I know I get to be the benefactor of them. I just purchased a new heuchera, can't recall the name here as I type, but it has more greens with white veining and an outline of pink that is truly gorgeous almost a Brunera colouring.
Just checking in here....YES! Dividing and sharing plants that have gotten too big is so satisfying. ANd heuchera does seem to be a more reliable plant than brunera. I love brunera but it seems a bit temperamental - at least around here in my dense clay-y soil.
I am on a working vacation in Virginia but would not miss this! The dogwoods have such a pretty flower!

I was given a Kousa seedling a few years back on BuyNothing. It's gotten quite big. I didn't know if it would survive here as I am Zone 4. Apparently, somehow I missed it's first couple flowers! My helper found the remains when he did a foliar feeding. Not sure how I managed that as I walk by it to open and close the cold frame every day...
lol. that's what happens when you are a very busy person!!
Sigh, I did look real hard this morning and there was 1/2 of 1 left....

Lovely dogwoods, one of my favorites. You know a lot more about the different varieties than I do! I enjoyed reading about them. My yard is small and pretty with virtually no shaded areas, only what the house provides when the sun is on either side of it. So I don't have a shady plant on the place, though they are beautiful as well. I also wanted to thank you for dropping by my Tree Tuesday post and leaving me a very nice upvote. Very much appreciated and nice to know that someone has read and liked your post. 😊

yes! by all means, get the twig dogwood "midwinter fire"! It's a great shrub and it keeps that red color all winter and looks great whether surrounded in snow or just dreary rain! In the spring, cut it way down to just above 2 buds
