Hey guys! This is Alicia coming to you from Đà Nẵng, Vietnam!
I created this series of videos to chronicle my growth as I study Vietnamese. My husband and I (the other kook in twokooksonevan) have been here in Vietnam for a little over two months now and I'm finally starting to feel a little more confident with my basic Vietnamese communication skills.
I am not a linguist but I do find language learning extremely interesting and it is a fascination that has guided me through the past 15 or so years of language learning and teaching. My undergraduate degree is in bilingual education and I’ve worked in various roles in the field over the last decade across South, Central and North America. I’ve dabbled in a few other languages over the years but this is the first time I’ve really dedicated myself to reaching a higher level of fluency with a new language since way back in high school when I first started my journey with Spanish.
This video discusses some of my first impressions of Vietnamese and talks a bit about the approach I took to start learning the language. Keep an eye out for episode #2 for more of the fundamentals of Vietnamese as well as some of my challenges and a few happy surprises that I have discovered along the way!
