The latest addition to Singapore's Changi Airport, is the Jewel Changi Airport. So what's the big deal? Well, I think it's kind of amazing that a country with a population of about 5.6 million people and a current land size (main island) of around of 280 square miles (725 square kilometers) has an airport with 4 terminals and a 5th in construction. I say current land size because roughly 23% of the land is reclaimed land and reclamation might still be ongoing.
Anyways, back to the Jewel Changi Airport, which is a multi-story mall with facilities to help alleviate the overflow of airport business from the connecting terminals. Inside you can things like a sky garden, F&B outlets including bars (I posted about one HERE), the "Sky Net" bouncy net which is suspended above the "sky park" which you can walk/bounce on. Of course there are brand name shops, a Pokemon center and a Yotel Air (minimalistic hotel). This really is a like a full blown mall that's surrounded by airport terminals, which each have their own shopping and F&B outlets inside and outside the Customs/Immigration gates. I've never ever (until Singapore) considered an airport to be a local shopping / eating destination. Seriously, last Chinese New Year, nobody wanted to cook and when asked for suggestions on where to go to eat/hang out, someone said Changi Airport and it's like someone turned on the lights in a dark room and everyone perked up, wide eyed and enthusiastic about the suggestion. Everyone except me, I was like, "really?! The airport?! Well at least we know they're open." Having said that, we all had a great time. Changi airport is always listed amongst the top airports in the world. It's really clean, decent amount of toilets, the aircon is really cold and the food pricing isn't the usual jacked up prices either! The Jewel Changi Airport is exactly that, the jewel of this already outstanding airport.
The main attraction of the Jewel is the indoor water fountain, which is said to be the tallest indoor water fountain in Singapore. Looking at it, it doesn't look like it mainly because you really can't see all of it as the water continues to fall another 2 stories below the pool of water.
