SketchTravel – Sketching up the Mekong River to Cambodia

Interesting clusters of houses

Navigating the rain

I arrived at the Vietnamese border town of Chao Doc in a steady rain. Not wanting to waste time, I visited the local vegetable market and then hired a boat to take me out on the river to see the floating markets and the fish farms. My camera got quite wet as I could not miss this opportunity to shoot all the amazing things I was seeing. Fortunately, my laptop, video camera and other essentials were safe in my room. The sketchbook got somewhat wet as well, but it would dry out in time.

As we took off in a fast boat to Cambodia next day, visions of stilt houses came into view and passed by like ghosts from another world. They all seemed to have tall antennas. Living on the river and being surrounded by water every day, this branch of the Mekong River was certainly their water of life.
