Forget the myths about the FSB. They have other concerns. It's just scary stories, nothing more.

At the 2018 world Cup, many people from different countries were pleasantly surprised by how friendly we were to them in our city, that Russian people are very kind and hospitable. It dispelled many wrong myths about us :)) I was once lucky enough to have a walk and a few hours of communication with the good guys @elmetro from Luxembourg and @siavach from Strasbourg who visited St. Petersburg in 2017. So I hope it will be another nice meeting with the guys from another continent :)).

If you need help with any kind of information: accommodation, apartments or hotel, meals depending on Your preferences (if I understand correctly that Your wife prefers vegetarian food - there is no problem with this), any preferences for attractions ( I can show or sort on any popular and rare exclusive routes ( some are not even listed in the guidebooks for foreign tourists).
