[Cambodia] A trip to the Pearl of Southeast Asia

in #travelfeed6 years ago

In Cambodia, I was a couple of years ago. My trip was spontaneous, full of emotions and impressions. Earlier about the temples and ruins of Cambodia, I read only in books, and I saw them in different TV shows such as Discovery. But it's one thing to watch on television, and it's quite another to see live.

Visa

It's easy to get a visa to Cambodia. Most tourists do this on arrival at the airport. It costs about 30 dollars. Half an hour waiting in line and welcome to Siem Reap. Yes, yes, we started our journey from this city.

From the airport, we went straight to the hotel to leave our suitcases and quickly get acquainted with Siem Reap.

The main transport in Cambodia is the tuktuk , i.e. a moped with a wagon attached to it. The weather in Cambodia is hot, but on a tuktuk without a breeze you will not ride, because I consider them the ideal transport!

Top sights

We flew to Cambodia late at night. They threw the suitcases in the hotel and went to get acquainted with the night city, namely on Pub Street . Getting here, it seems that you are in another world, because outside the street the city is asleep. Pub Street is a long street, on both sides of which there are cafes and restaurants, bars and pubs, beauty salons and discotheques ...

After drinking coffee, we went in search of tuktuk. It was still dark outside. We agreed with the driver of the tuktuk to take us around the city for a couple of days and show the main sights. For 2 days he was paid $ 45. With the driver we were very lucky. Despite the fact that our guide did not understand English well, he tried to do everything so that our tours around the city were interesting.

There is an interesting item in the Must Do </ em> list in Cambodia - meeting the dawn. And this is a very important point. To meet the dawn you need to get up before cocks, in 4-5 hours, landscapes are opened such that the spirit captures.

20160902_080026.jpgIn Siem Reap is the well-known Angkor and its ancient temples. In the tourist map there are 2 options: a small and a large circle. And these circles intersect. To see Angkor you need to buy a ticket.

Tickets are different: for 1 day (20 dollars), for 3 days (40 dollars) and for a week, that is for 7 days (60 dollars).

Angkor (in translation means "Holy City") - It is the center of the Khmer Empire, which existed until about the 13th century. And today Angkor is a huge historical center, an open-air museum, the raisins of which are the temples of Angkor Wat and Anghor Thom. Both churches are included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. The capital of the ancient Khmer Empire was the city of Angkor Thom , in translation means The Great Capital . The city is a sacred complex, in which the most ancient temples of Cambodia are preserved.

20160902_093408.jpgThe main attractions of Cambodia are temples, or rather their ruins.

Angkor Wat is a huge complex, like a small town. The temple was created to worship the god Vishnu. It was built 9 centuries ago. Angkor Wat is located outside the city of Siem Reap.

Angkor Wat can be found on the national flag and the coat of arms of Cambodia. The temple was built on the principle of the mountain, where the gods dwell. If you look at Angkor Wat from a bird's eye view, you can see that the five inner towers of the temple are built in the shape of a lotus. The highest tower of the temple is 65 m.

The most striking thing about Angkor is its architecture. Very delicate work. And every element of the towers and walls of the temple is made according to Hindu laws.

I have already said that it is recommended to meet dawns in Cambodia. Here you can see not only how the sun wakes up, but also for how it hides in your house.

Another popular attraction is the temple Phnom Bakken.

20160903_181555.jpgTemple Phnom Bakeng is a structure that consists of 108 towers. The temple was dedicated to the god Shiva, therefore the number 108 plays a big role here. According to the Hindu teachings, exactly 108 original elements served as the creation of our universe, besides 4 lunar cycles consisting of 27 days, in total, also give the number 108. The number 7 is also a sacred number. Therefore, the temple consists of 7 levels, which are associated with 7 levels of the sky. At the 5th level of the temple there are 12 brick buildings, that is, 12 signs of the zodiac.

Another interesting point. In Hinduism there are 33 gods, and no matter from what place of the temple to look at the towers, there will always be seen only 33 turrets, not one more, not one less. </ Em>

Among other things, it was here that the pictures of the film Lara Croft passed. And there are always a lot of people here. Especially in the evening. In the queue, you have to stand for about an hour to climb the top of the temple.

20160903_113415.jpgHonestly, I could not remember the names of all the temples, since there are a lot of them in Cambodia. All the churches are under the protection of various international organizations trying to preserve a valuable historical heritage.
