This weekend i wanted to try some thing different i had plan to go to this market outside of Bangkok city for the day and travel Samut Songkhram Province , where the Maeklong Railway Market is situated which is about 80 km out of Bangkok city.

There are several ways you can get yourself to the Maeklong Railway Market i will put a link under this post for you to look at. You might wonder why would i travel that far just to go and look at another fruit and veggie Thai market but what makes this unique and fun is because it's held along side a railway track.

All the vendors line there fruits , veggies , seafood , household utensils , clothing and many more products along side the railway line and you simply walk on the live railway line checking out whatever you might want to buy interesting way of shopping certainly different.

The Maeklong Railway Market is more aimed for the locals than tourists as you can see they do have everything needed for the locals everything is bought in fresh in the early hours of the morning.

Maeklong Railway Market is one of the most visited markets visited by tourist all around the world this market is also known as the Talad Rom Hub (“Rom Hub” literally means “Closed Umbrella”) set up along a active railway route it opens early morning until early evening.

So why is this market so popular for tourist is because this is a working railway track , trains will pass by this railway track eight times a day a warning will come over the loud speakers set up along the railway track to let you know and security guards are also appointed along the track for every ones safety.

So after the announcement over the loud speakers shortly after you will hear the train whistle several times as extra warning for the tourist and the locals to prepare themselves and get themselves in a safe spot to allow the train to come through the locals are use to this and know exactly what to do the local merchants quickly move there products when the train comes they fold up all the tents , umbrellas and move everything back inches away from the train tracks.

And this is the main reason why so many tourist visit this market it is quite usual to have a train pass you by inches away from your face with all the passengers on the train and tourist giving themselves high-5's and cheering on it's such a usual atmosphere nothing i have even seen in any other part of the world well maybe there is somewhere else in the world that this happens but for me seeing it for the first time was quite amusing.

So this is the fun and joy of visiting these markets to stand by the side of the tracks as this huge great locomotive passes by you just inches from your nose and this is repeated eight times a day every day of the week....WOW...these poor vendors in why it has been nicknamed "The Umbrella Market".

As the train reaches the station and stops to load up more passengers a few tourist will jump on the back of the train like little kids to have there photo taken all part of the fun and the vendors are busy putting everything in order again till the next train comes along then it's all repeated again.

There are also several food stalls along the train tracks where you can get out of the hot sun have a cool drink or a beer enjoy a couple of yummy Thai dishes and watch the trains go by it really is something different to see i really enjoyed my day there.

You can never go without seeing a stray cat around Thailand.

You will see a few of these signs along the tracks that the vendors put up for your safety make sure you do take notices of these signs for your own safety.

So if your even in Bangkok and you love this sort of day out you will not be disappointed visiting "The Umbrella Market" as it is known amongst the tourist i certainly experienced and saw something different that i really enjoyed.

Mind you, the first thought was, what about safety? Still, it seems a bit dangerous.

Thanks guys 👍

How can I possibly say anything but a big wow! There is no way I thought you could outdo your other posts, but I actually think you might have. I have never personally witnessed this but I do know there is a similar train in Myanmar. I I am pretty sure that it's not something that your usual tourist goes to save this is amazing and I can see why it's a tourist trap formation point you documented it so well and the bright colors of that train just make everything pop. I cannot believe that they have the food so close to the tracks and don't cover it up because can you imagine the few phones that everything else that might get on the food? In saying this everybody seems to be comfortable with it so who am I to say?

You bring me the most bizarre, fun, unique posts I have ever seen. The fact they are willing to pull back their canopies eight times a day without blinking and eye is amazing. The fruits and vegetables look wonderful and it's so crappy. I don't think you could fit anymore people. There is such an array of food that I am sure nobody will ever go hungry.

It seems to be a pretty accepted practice and they've even put in steps so people can walk along the tracks without hurting their feet on the rocks. I keep scrolling and scroll and seeing more seafood and crabs and shrimp and all kinds of fish and mushrooms and on and on and all my God! I think I'll join you and have a drink. Despite how its setup and even looks like a permanent structure in one of the pictures and yet I know they put it away from the train comes. I like how the tourists jump on the train for picture. Wouldn't they let like to be arrest but the Thai police? Another amazing post and again I am totally at a loss for words. Thank you for covering this in such a way that only you can and I love the little kitty! It keeps the rats away. LOL

A beautiful sunset a beautiful day and I cannot thank you enough for bringing us here and showing off beautiful Thailand. I'm not sure you could have covered anymore challenges but then again you are like me. The more the merrier. LOL thank you so much for putting so much time and effort into making this a most wonderful challenge.

#MarketFriday loves you!

Upped and steemed

Tip .20

I do think i have out done myself here but i might still have a couple more up my sleeve...hehe..but you are right this place was amazing and it truly blow me out just when you think you have seen it all and the way i was seeing people's reactions here were like little kids in a playground never seen before.

Thank you as always for your awesome comments and your generous tips. Hope your having a great weekend 😊
