Let's travel together #45 - To The Hooks, Nera Gorges (La Cârlige - Cheile Nerei)

Today is a different adventure - more demanding in terms of efforts. It's a 20km-long-journey exploring the wilderness of the Nera Gorges. ⛰️

Nera Gorges is known for the many touristic attractions that are hidden in the nature, along the Nera River - where people who are braver than me, go on rafting. I would love to try this someday but unfortunately my biggest fear it's water so I would probably stay away from it. 🌊

Talking about the necessary effort - there are no tilted surfaces that require climbing. You only need to be accustomed to walk a lot as there are 20km full of beauty and adrenaline. When I took this journey it was a little bit creepy as after more than one hour of walking I was still not meeting other tourists. On this little journey you will meet a house called Damian Canton where you can camp or just rest and look on the map for more details about what you will discover on your trip if you go further. 🏕️

On our little journey we met a lot of fallen trees which created a sad landscape because I don't know if those fell because of the weather or there were people who grub up the forest.. Anyway, if you go there you will meet a lot of interesting trees - from different shapes to trees who's roots are literally embracing the stones from surroundings or even some other trees with art on the bark having different meanings and inscriptions. 🌲

We even had the luck to meet a marten and a little fox which were resting on the leaves. 🦊

Another important aspect if you go there is that there are springs. There was a mark on a tree and even written on the rocks that you were walking on - so pay attention to details, you may need some fresh water which flows between the stones. 🚰

On our little adventure we met different spots where people used to camp, so now we can be more calm seeing that we are not the only crazy tourists in that wild place. There were even some children trained to swim, jumping directly from the rocks, crazy, huh? 🏊🏻

After about 2 hours of walking without taking any break, we meet our first touristic attraction called To The Hooks (RO: La Cârlige). This is where the adrenaline begins. It's a place similar to the adventure from my last post when we had to hold the hooks and wires so we won't fall into the water. If last day I laughed saying that there are only some cm depth of water, now it's different.. 😨

The space required to step by is getting smaller and smaller and the water under our feet is way deeper now. There are even some little fishes there, luckily not piranha, lol. So there is no time for jokes but grab those hooks and wires and be careful where we put our feet on. 🧗

A few years ago this place used to have a tunnel before you have to cross this area but meanwhile a part of the stones broke and fallen into the water destroying it. 👣

The whole route is about 6 hours (12hours if you want to get back) and The Hooks are only the first touristic attraction on the Nera Gorges. The hanging bridge over the water on a fairly big height and the Devil’s Lake are just a few of the things you will discover on the journey. 🤩

Unfortunately, we had a bad luck in that day as the blue sky became cloudy in just a few minutes and the storm started - which stopped us from going further. It was impossible to continue our journey so we had to return to our car and get back to our camping base as fast as we could. But if you visit this place be sure to go through the whole route as there are too many interesting things that you are not allowed to miss. 🌩️

It was a nice adventure and experience that we will repeat one day to see all touristic attractions from that area but until then, maybe you get the chance to visit it before and make me jelly with some pictures from the amazing places we haven't visited yet. Have a great weekend everyone! 💚
