Pisac - Challenge stay at home (Day 5)

in #travelathome5 years ago

Hi everyone,

Today, I would like to show you pictures from one of the best-preserved ruins of the Inca city - Pisac in Peru.

This town is located less than an hour's drive from Cuzco, in the valley of the Urubamba River called the Sacred Valley of the Incas.

Writing in quechuan means partridge, because this is the shape of an Inca town. The Pisac ruins complex is very large, 5 times bigger than Machu Picchu. Historical sources of Spanish chroniclers do not give any information about this town. It was built in the 15th century and 100 years later it was destroyed by the Spaniards. To this day, scientists still argue about its function. Some see it as a fortress, created to defend the Holy Valley from the south. Others see an agricultural town with numerous farm terraces. Barracks, fortifications, civilian residences, temples, aqueducts, agricultural areas: no other Incan ruins, including Machu Picchu, cover such a wide range of infrastructure.

Another and the best part of the complex is the extensive terraces for growing plants. Their height reaches up to 3.5 m. Fertile soil was brought here from the nearby valleys. The terraces had an irrigation system developed to make cultivation more efficient. These terraces make a huge impression on tourists, all the more so because in reality this building is really huge.

If you'll ever be in Peru, I recommend this place with all my heart, and the vastness of the Inca buildings will surely raise the question in you - How did they build it? 🤔

Thank you for reading and I invite all to join to challenge #travelathome created by @psos.
See you tomorrow and take care of yourself!
