Baku - capital of ?; Challenge stay at home (Day 3)

in #travelathome5 years ago

Hi everyone,

Welcome to the tenth day of my quarantine, and the third day under hashtag #travelathome created by @psos. Today we're going to West Asia. Exactly to the country, which probably the majority of humanity would not be able to indicate on the map - Azerbaijan.

In the summer of 2018, my girlfriend and I decided to visit this country. Although Azerbaijan sounds exotic and there is still not much information about it, Baku, the capital of the country, is one of the most modern cities in the world. It's here that the famous Haidar Aliyiv futuristic cultural center is located, it's here that the burning skyscrapers were built, which resemble the flames of fire and it's here that international festivals and competitions such as the Grand Prix take place.

Baku is the largest city in Azerbaijan, this is where the oldest and largest port in the Caspian Sea is located. It is located in the eastern part of the country, on the Absheron Peninsula. It is located at an altitude of 28 m below sea level, thus being the lowest capital city in the world and the largest city located below sea level. Baku is inhabited by more than 2 million people, which was almost 1/4 of Azerbaijan's population.

The most popular walking place in Baku is the wide seaside boulevard running along the bay. It is separated from the city by a busy Oilmen's Prospectus. A 4 km long promenade connects the city centre with the port area.

Serving as office buildings and a hotel, the Baku Flame Towers are the true pride of the Azerbaijani capital. Unfortunately, if you don't plan to stay overnight in them, you can't enter them to admire the fantastic panorama of the city stretching from their level. The 3 blocks refer to the fire - an element that has been associated with Azerbaijan for centuries, being a symbol of strength, energy and eternity.

Baku's hallmark

Baku is a city where the view of the city changing at such a fast pace is very impressive and really worth a visit.

Azerbaijan is a really wonderful country, and I'm sure it will be here again in my stories, because in three pictures it's hard to describe it and show it to you. 🙂

Thank you for reading and I invite all to join to challenge #travelathome.
See you tomorrow and take care of yourself! 👋
